Where would you sell this watch?

    Hi,

Apologies if this kind of question has been done to death here, had a quick scour couldn't see anything.

I have a gorgeous Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso watch that I've got great craic out of over the years but that I now want to sell. I've gotten so used recently to wearing my Asus Zenwatch as my everyday watch that the Reverso just feels too small on the special occassions when I wear it.

I am looking to sell it and to buy a bigger watch (probably a Max Bill chronoscope). I am wondering if anyone has any advice on how to go about selling it? I see there is an active community on Adverts, would something like this sell on there? Has anyone any experience of any of the watch sites like chrono24?

In terms of what I need to present when I am selling it - I have the box and the cert (at least what I assume is the cert, its a stamp inside one of the booklets inside the box). I thought I had kept the (now worn) first set of original ostrich skin straps but I can't find them, the watch currently has a Barington ostrich strap on it. Is there anything else I should have or need to point out in an ad? I see some ads covering over numbers from the cert, is that important? There is a serial number on the back of the watch itself, is it ok to show that number?

So basically first time selling a watch, any advice on avoiding newbie mistakes would be appreciated :)

You've mentioned box and paperwork and they are very important for any potential buyer. Mention where you purchased it, what year you purchased it, whether or not it has been serviced or not. A jaeger service will not be cheap and will need to be factored into the selling price. Try take plenty of pictures and make sure you get close up shots of any marks or scuffs/swirls on the face or strap. Will save questions later on.
You could try this forum (there is a specific thread for buying/selling) and also adverts but it's a small market for a watch like that. They are a beautiful piece and one I very nearly bought a couple of years ago but decided it's not really my style.

I'll take some pics tomorrow. Such a pity I can't find the original straps, not a huge fan of the ones on it. But I love the watch itself. Pics tomorrow!

Sorry OP, slightly off topic but sheppards auctioneers are looking for entries for a watch and instrumentation auction next year. Might be worth a try there

Is that a 250.5.11? Is it quartz or auto? Things you might want to check before pricing/offering it.

Good point! It is a 250.5.86, ala these http://www.chrono24.co.uk/jaegerlecoultre/ref-250586.htm

So a manual winder. The valuations on that site seem a little high, I assume the site itself is taking a fair whack of the price.
