Don't know if I'm posting this in the right place but...I'm 29 y/o male, fairly healthy I'd say, but on and off for the past 4 years I'm having very bad chest pain, 2 years ago I thought I was having a heart attack the pain was that bad, but I was brought to the hospital and they said I just had a bad chest infection they done bloods and ECG on me and all came back normal so they sent me home with an antibiotic and pain killer but pain was still there a week later so went back to doc and pulled the results up on his computer and he said they made a mistake I had pneumonia, so he gave me something to get rid of it, so I got a fright and didn't go back to doctors for a year and a half, everytime the pain came back I just dealt with it, now the pain is getting really bad and feels like a heart attack, went to the doc two weeks ago and he got bloods done again and ECG , all came back normal he said I have nothing to worry about, but I myself think I have and don't know what to do, cardiac problems run in my family in all the generations and cancer too, I just feel that somewhere along the lines of the hospital or my doctor is wrong, like did you ever know or feel yourself that there is something wrong that they just can't see, my doctor looks at me as if I'm making it up, I said to him just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there, and he said someone at my age does not have heart problems but for god sake there are babies and young kids out there that have cardiac problems and docs make wrong diagnosis on things like this, please help

If you ever get an answer please share!

I was given that to but doesn't even take the edge off, I will of course no problem

in all fairness, I think a bad chest infection can be termed pneumonia, a bad chest infection can turn into pneumonia a week later but i dont understand why you were afraid to go back to a doctor. either way it requires the treatment that you got. the pain from this can be incredible.

theres little point in looking for medical advise here, but if you had a heart problem, i think it would have shown up by now so perhaps you need to look to other causes - non cardiac chest pain is so very common, but no one wants to admit they have it because the cause is stress and anxiety. and then people think everyone assumes they are making it up, but the symptoms are real and present. its a known diagnosis and you can get help for it. worrying about it will make you worse. education on it is key,

but i am a born believer in doctors differ and patients die..... however ....... you must ask for a letter of referral to a cardiac consultation and talk to them. they will confirm either way if there is something wrong.

Well my aunt died 4 weeks ago of a heart attack an she was only 53 which I still consider to be young she also had open heart surgery at 35 and her death came as a big shock to me and gave me a bigger fright considering that this all runs in my family, I didn't go back to the doctor out of fear that if I did they would make the wrong diagnosis again that's what scared me not going back, I'm a very positive person myself, but I also feels like other people out there that there is something they are missing

    Yes

About a month ago i had a skin coloured mole change. Normal moles are brown but you can get skin coloured ones as well. But the warning signs they look out for are in brown ones. If it changes in any way, gets bigger or changes colour that is something to worry about.

This was happening in a new skin coloured mole. It was bleeding and getting bigger. I was and still am worried. The doctor at the time said it was a skin tag but they hang off your skin. This wasn't hanging. Gave me a referral to a public hospital. I just wasn't happy. I was going to wait for the appointment in the public hospital as I didn't know what to do at the time.

It started to bleed really bad after that gp visit and grew to a wart size spot in about a week. I'm not sure if it was getting caught in clothes or not but i have loads of moles and none of them never got caught in clothes. But i went to another clinic anyway that removed it for me. They said it was nothing to worry about and it looked like a wart. The most common place to get warts are on your hands and feet. This was on my neck.

So here's two doctors giving me different information. It's a skin tag, it's a wart. They won't look at the whole you. I'm covered in moles and already at an increased chance of skin cancer, some cancers can show up as a spot or wart like thing that doesn't heal. But here's doctors going by the most deadly kind of skin cancer and following the ABCD rules of melanoma. That doesn't give you much confidence in doctors. Maybe I'm doing all the worrying but if doctors don't know themselves.

I'm glad i didn't listen to the first doctor and wait it out for an appointment. If it's anything sinister, you just cannot wait. I should be getting the results in about a week's time. The worrying I'm doing now. But thankfully whenever i try to self diagnose, I'm always wrong, so here's hoping I'm wrong and it's nothing to worry about.

If you think your doctor has got it wrong, go to another one for a second opinion.

Just like mechanics, doctors can miss things.

Go with your gut. Trust yourself . If your not happy , go back to The doctor and say, look I know that all the tests are Normal but would you mind terribly if I saw a specialist? Sure of course I'll organise that . Thanks so much that's great.

Ps what is the difference between a bad chest infection and a pneumonia. That's just 2 doctors using different words for the same thing.

So you feel the same way about doctors that I do now, thank you for that and I hope all your test come back ok and clear and it is nothing to worry about

If you're not happy, keep going back or see a new doctor. Ask to a see a specialist. Ask for every test possible. Don't let them dismiss you. It must not be easy having heart problems in the family and they're happy to let you out the door with chest pain. You can get younger people than you just dropping dead. For the fact your doctor said people your age doesn't have problems, i would be changing gp over that.
