my outside riello oilburner has developed a problem,it started with the pump goin due to water getting in the line,so i got a new pump, cleaned and bled the system of any impurities, stuck on the new pump,it now fires and heats the rads

until it knocks itself off, then it will cycle but wont fire,i can go out and reset it,it wont fire, when the rads cool,it fires again when i reset it first time, anyone any ideas?

rads cooling before pump fires cant see the connection

what exactly did you do to clear the impurities from the system

you may have an issue with the new pump again if you didn't remove all the water from the tank as well as the line and the filter did you fit a new nozzle as well

cleaned the tank pumped out the line going to the boiler, filled with new oil, only thing i can think of is the pump isnt working right, perhaps the solenoid valve isnt working properly, but 100 per cent of the time the boiler fires when cold, and when warm it wont 100 per cent of the time,it is weird but i can only draw the conclusion that the pump is faulty,or somehow got **** in it

    As Jim said.

Did you remove "ALL THE WATER" from the oil tank.
Not just draining oil line till it ran clear. ?

faulty photocell may be affected by heat from boiler

when you try to fire the burner does it sound normal or is it just a low hum

without the basic test equipment it will be hard to know exactly where the issue lies

yeah tank emptied, cleaned out, then the oil supply line drained also,if its the pump fair enough, just seems strange that it will run every time from cold but wont relight, you would imagine the pump would just crap out intermittently regardless of temperature!

how would that work? just the heat obsuring the lens of the photocell with soot or something?

Sounds like a solenoid coil issue.

Which riello burner do you have? (G series or RDB)

    Thing to check:
When the burner tries to fire again but locks out, power off and take the burner out, see if the blast tube is wet or dry
If dry, sounds like a solenoid issue.

its dry alright,is there a way to check the solenoid coil for sure?

When you mean the burner wont relight, does the burner go to lockout and you have to press the reset button again?,i cant quite picture what is happeming

It's only a guess but I had a Danfoss photocell once where the current through it went sky high when it got hot,but would start normally. For a few euro it's worth a try.Good luck.

Yeah burner goes to lockout after it warms the rads to temperature,so,press red reset when cold, burner fires until rads at whatever temperature you set, knocks off, attempts to fire again when rads cool a bit, wont and goes to lockout, wont fire again until rads are cool

As Dgobs and others already said. A new coil is worth a try if he hasn't a way of testing it.
