Hi all got a new grant boiler couple of years ago. Thing is when i turn it on, it takes over an hour for the rads to heat up. I have it timed to come on in the mornings at half 6 but its close to 8 before the rads are hot. Any ideas what the prob could be?

Did you bleed the rads in-case there is air in the system?

It sounds to me as though the balance valve on the cylinder is fully open, incorrectly set, not fitted or there are issues with your circulation pump or overall circulation issues.

Surely you turn it on manually for testing without waiting for your timer to come on in the morning.

Not sure what you mean. It doesnt matter if its switched on timer or manually. The boiler is running away for over an hour before heat kicks in to them. Edit. Do you mean turn it on now? Stove has the rads warm so no point testing now

I think what riverman means is to turn it on for maybe 20mins if its just the balancing valve is the issue you will know by then

What I mean is switch in on manually now to check if half closing the valve has made a difference to the time it takes the rads to heat up.

I have both solid fuel (stove) and oil central heating. The valve has to be almost fully closed to get maximum heat in the rads from the oil system.

When your oil is on by itself, are the stove pipes heating up?
