    folks,

I am considering mounting the tv on the chimney breast.

As I dont want cables knocking about, is it ok to drill into the chimney cavity to run cables up through it?

    thanks
    rob

If it is a working chimney then I would not consider interfering with the chimney cavity. You would damage the chimney lining and the Cables placed there would constitute a fire risk.

Placing a tv on a chimney breat will expose the unit to heat from the fire which could result in overheating and resultant damage. I also believe you would invalidate any warranty.

Wrong. Once there's a mantlepiece it deflects the heat away completely. I've had a tv on the chimney breast for years and even with a ranging fire it doesn't get warm.

no, its not a working fireplace - so I guess I am safe.

one last question, is it possible to get a drill bit long enough to drill into it from the side for power ?

    thanks

You can get SDS drill bits up to 120cm (longest I've used anyway). Tricky for your job but doable. Just don't hit the flue!

Trade counter sells them 2 or 2 foot long.
