Ongoing Windows update bug woes affecting all ISPs
Virgin also advising customers knocked offline

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/12/12/ongoing_windows_8_10_dhcp_problems_affecting_all_isps/

"An ongoing software update bug on Windows 8 and 10 appears affecting users of several UK ISPs, with Virgin Media the latest provider to admit the problem is knocking a number of its customers offline.

The problem first emerged last week, when BT and Plusnet admitted that computers running Microsoft's newer operating systems are losing network connectivity due to what appears to be a problem with Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)."

Don't know if its related, I have Windows 10 c/w all updates. If the pc goes to deep sleep, I have to re-enter the password again to wake it up. When it resurrects itself I have no internet connectivity. I have to click on the internet image in the tray and re-enter the Connection password to get online again.

If this spoof has come out from their massive scale DNS issues last week well then its nonsense. The issues last week for Virgin were entirely DNS related and nothing to do with DHCP protocols in any Windows platforms

Hi, excuse my techno-ignorance but what do you mean by the tray? My dad (Eir customer) was telling me earlier that he's having a problem with his internet. However it turns out he can connect via his laptop but it's his pc that has the problem. He's running Windows 10.

Maybe I used the wrong term. What I'm referring to is the Taskbar.

I have this problem on the PC the kids use at home, Windows 10 Anniversary Edition. A few days ago the "internet would not work". It is wired into the router but would not pick up its DHCP settings, despite everything being set to automatic. The modem/router could see it, but claimed it was using a static IP address. After various rebootings etc I just set the PC up with a static IP and the kids were happy again.

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

You need to reset the TCP-IP stack, possibly more then once. Microsoft are in big trouble at the moment.

    Best option is this.

Select the Start button, then select Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset.
On the Network reset screen, select Reset now > Yes to confirm.

    Thank you. :)

Just to update - this worked perfectly. Happy Dad! Again, thank you. :)
