They just sent out a price rise notification, this allows you to break your contract without penalty. I rang their customer loyalty dept intending to switch to Sky and they gave me 1/2 Price for 9 months with a reduced rate for the final 3 months. They also offered me a free Home Hub which arrives tomorrow to replace the Horizon box as my modem / router. It is meant to be much better than the horizon box at handling your internet. I would advise you do the same.

You can phone them up and ask for the new router to be sent out - they will disable the modem within the Horizon box and supply a splitter allowing you to connect the standalone modem up.

Or possibly ask the reps over on the Talk to Virgin Media forum

Just ring them and tell them you are cancelling and moving to Sky or Eir and you don't really need the 240Mb BB speed, they will lap it up and offer you a deal. I got the free new Virgin Media Hub today and intial impressions are it's infinitely superior to the Horizon box for the internet, much better range, has no hassle with 15+ devices being connected, no drops yet which were frequent on the Horizon.
