Fibreglass Wallpaper?

    Hi All,

We just fitted a Riva Stovax 50 into our standard Fireplace opening, lovely stove, looks well and heats well so far. Only issue is that we are having small hairline cracks around it (its inset and flush with the wall) I think this is because a new small lentil was placed above it and I feel no amount of plaster will stop this from happening.

What Im looking to do is get Fibreglass wall paper to cover the chimney breast and hairline cracks (Non Structural) and then paint over it for a clean finish.

Has anybody ever used it this way and could advise where to buy it in Ireland?

    Many Thanks...

    Fiberglass Wallpaper. What is it?

As name suggests its made from glass fibers woven and bonded together to form a sheet material. Due to the way wallpaper is produced its incredibly strong and provides a great reinforcement to any wall or ceiling. Made from natural non toxic materials like quartz, soda, lime and dolomite its a green product too. Its flame resistant and prevents flames from spreading, a key benefit in fire-safety. After Professionally applied it can be over-painted many times without peeling or even plastered over. The distinct properties of fiberglass wallpaper, makes it the ultimate solution to commercial, industrial and healthcare sectors where durability and safety plays a very important role.

One of the more dangerous ideas I have read in a while, given the solvents used in both manufacturing and application.

Thanks for the info - But my head hurts from trying to read that document. I've tried keyword searches and still I am failing to find what I should be looking for, not being lazy, but can you point me to what I should be looking for in it?

Flame resistant is not the same thing as heatproof, you should look for stone, tiles or skamolex to surround the stove. I imagine you'd use some sort of glue or paste to attach fibreglass wallpaper and when your stove heats up you'd be releasing all those chemicals and the chemicals in the wallpaper into your living room.

We had hairline cracks too . I researched fireproof wallpaper but didn't find anything . Ended up tiling the breast reluctantly . Delighted we did now . Pm email address if you want pics

    Glasstex -

Looks like I am just trying to convince myself on this, however I can see its not a widely used solution - so caution is obviously advised eh
