    Hi Boarders/Golfers,

I'm hoping you can help me.
I'm looking to buy tickets for my dad for the Irish Open in Portstewart next year.
Can someone who knows anything about golf help me?

What is the best day to go?
Is it better to get general admission tickets or tickets for 18th green?

    Thanks!

Thursday and Friday tend to be less crowded and there are more players to see. The draw for the first two days is split so players play in the morning on Thursday and Friday afternoon or vice versa.

I'd expect the top players in the event to play early thursday and late Friday to suit TV. Depending on where you are based, it might be worth staying nearby Wednesday night and try to get into the course before 8 on Thursday. Alternatively go up on Friday morning watch the players warm up on the range at lunch time and then follow them around.

If your Dad is fit and mobile, you probably don't need the Grandstand tickets for the 18th as he'll want to follow a few groups around and you can watch them putting at other greens.

    Thanks Searay.

Yes we are in north Dublin, so 3 hrs from Portstewart.
Was thinking the same about the hotel.

So i see it is on from the Tuesday 4th to Sunday 9th July.

I was thinking of getting tickets for the Saturday or Sunday. Would these not be the better dates?

If your only going for one day I'd advise the Thursday or Friday if your schedule suits.
Half the field are cut after the first two days so if your Dad has certain players he wanted to see there's a chance they wouldn't be there on the weekend.
Other than that get there early and enjoy the day!

P.S. - Maybe have a course map and tee times printed out in advance to avoid paying through the nose for them at the gate!

Maybe the festive pack for £119 would be a good purchase looking at the website:

Well it goes to show how little i know about golf!
I assumed the last day would be the best day to go!

He works shift work but im sure he'll take a day off.

Looking at tickets, does the festival fan pack look reasonable?

Don't get me wrong. The weekend is still great to go as the players go out in reverse order from who's leading. So all the leaders are generally close together. Which can be exciting, but draws a big crowd.

From what I see from the festive pack the tickets are for any one day so you could give him that and he could elect to go for whichever day he'd like best! And seems to be the best value.

It's hard to follow what's going on when you are on the course, personally I'd rather watch the last day or so on TV. The european tour sell earpiece radios in the tented village which are good to follow the scores.

Somebody maybe able to recommend an app that you can follow the commentary using your phone.

    Thanks guys,

    I've purchased the festival pack.
And as you said he can choose when he wants to go and who he wants to bring with him.

Thanks for the feedback and advice!

As golfers, is this in line for best Xmas present award? :)

    It's definitely up there!

No point in trying to get clubs or balls or anything as most players know what they like and stick to it.

Yes! He'll be delighted! :) Best child, ill never get the award of favourite child lol

Yeah exactly, i wouldn't know what kind of clubs to get him, plus if he needed new ones, he'd just go out and buy them himself, but he wouldn't buy tickets for the Irish open.

I really hope he likes it!

I got some last Christmas for this years Open and it was great.

Was on 18th to see McIlroy hitting his second into the green
