Seat Leon Tsi oil type

I recently bought a Demo 161 Seat Leon FR 1.4tsi 125bhp 92kw. I am trying to figure out exactly which oil type the car takes the more I look online the more conflicting info I find. It would be good to know so I can get a litre for top ups. To add to the confusion there is a 122bhp 90kw engine which I think was the early engine. Anyway my current understanding of it:

VW502 spec normal fixed interval servicing for petrols
VW504 spec longlife / variable service interval for petrols
    VW507 used in diesel versions

So ultimately can VW507 spec be used as in is that better than 504 or is it not suitable for petrols ? My car from the computer seems to be on variable longlife servicing however I will just service it every 15k km I recon.

There is a huge amount of grades mentioned for it from different websites; 5W30, 5W40, 0W30 again its hard to know which is the best to use as the handbook doesn't say.

At the minute I am swaying towards using VW507 5W30 but could be wrong. My logic on it is as this is now the most used oil in a Seat garage as it's used in all the diesels afaik then chances are this is what will be used when it's serviced ?

Finally does anyone know what brand oil Seat use in their workshop Castrol or Quantum ?

Some pictures might help us with this.

    Just sayin...

Most of the VW oil is both VW 507 and 504 certified. You're safe with that.

Castrol Edge is a popular choice.

many of the oils that meet 50700 also meet 50400.
you will find that the likes of mobil 1 5w 30esp meets spec
    50700 & 50400. Similarly castrol edge 5w30.

Just go to the dealer. Most VAG dealers do the castrol litre bottles for a tenner. That'll do for top ups in between when needed, you'll pay more anywhere else for it.

Yep they gave me a bottle of Edge with mine when I got it. Haven't had to use it mind you.

Thanks lads I will head over to my local dealer and get some I just wanted to have an idea before I go over as there is very few of these going around in petrol but I am sure they should know or will be able to see it on their computer.

It's not in their interest to give you the wrong stuff:)

Plenty going about with that engine or a variant of.

It's usually the same oil for either petrol or diesel. Any oil that meets the 504.00 petrol spec also meets the 507.00 diesel spec.

You are right to keep an eye on it, expect to put in a litre every 10k.

I heard the Leon was just a loaner car until his 171 A4 arrives in January!

I plan on dipping it weekly to get an idea of what it's using. I just want to get the oil now to have it because knowing my luck it will be some Sunday night when I suddenly need to top the car up with oil and not much trying to go get the right oil then. It's no harm have stuff like that bought in advance makes life a lot easier.

It's a car with 4000 km. Do VAG cars really burn this much oil? My Focus with 240000 km doesn't burn a drop and stays at the max level between 10000 km services. I think you're mad to be buying oil already.

In general petrols burn a bit of oil my golf or A4 diesel never burned a drop but I would expect this one to burn a little. No harm to have a litre laying around rather than being stuck for it and not having it. It's not exactly expensive.

Probably won't, but I think you're mad not to have a litre in the boot.

You're overthinking it. It's a new car, it's not an 8 year old diesel with half a million miles on it. You're unlikely to need to top it up, let the dealers do it when it's being serviced once a year...

In my experience the early TSI's (MK5 GTI) had a slight thirst for oil but the newer stuff does not.

Even if it does just land the thing back on the dealers door if anything goes wrong!

You should use olive oil. Goes well with Spanish stuff.

Nothing mad about that. I check the oil weekly before I go anywhere and if I need to top it up I will take oil from the shed. You would need to have a serious oil leak or do very big mileage if you need to top up on the go.

It's not much of an inconvenience to carry a litre of oil in the boot.
I'm not one for carrying emergency equipment but I do have a litre of oil in the boot. The last thing I want is to get cought somewhere with a low oil pressure warning.

As for landing the car back at the dealers if something went wrong, the dealer wouldn't be long telling you your warranty is void because you neglected to react to low oil warning if it all went bang.

I own a petrol VW and it hasn't used any oil in 11k Kms but I still carry some.

A litre of oil will do little help if the oil pressure light is on, man.

Nothing mad about keeping it in the boot. I don't have a shed and I keep a Litre in the boot. It's not a big deal really!

I never suggested it was :)

    Update

I went to my local Seat dealer and got the top up pack which is 1 litre of oil in a nice neat zip Castrol bag which has a few paper funnels and tissue. The best part of the bag is it has Velcro on it so sticks to the side of the boot in the crevice out of the way nice and neat. So at least I have it now if I ever need it and if not it's out of the way in the boot.

The oil itself is Castrol Edge professional 5W30 VW504/507 spec so both specs are covered by the same oil as George said earlier. Thanks everyone for the input.

Did you buy the oil on PCP as well? 😂

I pay for my oil on PCP. €10 a month for unlimited top-ups. It's a bargain. They use better oil than is available to the public too. VW504/507 is far too obvious a choice to be used for PCP oil.

Audi kindly fitted a little zip up bag in the boot of my car that' fits a 1 litre oil container perfectly, make sense when they mention in the manual that it will use oil lol
