Recently had a harddrive issue, so replaced it, laptop running fast as its a clean installation of windows 10 with a better hard drive.. going to install my software now..

Here is what I need help with..

I want to make a copy of my harddrive (when fully installed) that I can just reinstall when things slow down in the future..

I think its a ghost copy ? anyway, I simply want the copy on an external drive and when needed just copy it back over onto the internal drive and start over...

Can someone explain how this is done ? in releatively simply terms..

Thanks for taking the time to read this :)

There are a few programs available which may fit your requirements.

Personally, I have been using Acronis TrueImage for a while.

    - install TrueImage on the machine, you want to backup
    - create a bootable CD-ROM with TrueImage
    - create a complete system image with TrueImage to your external drive

In case you need to reinstall your backup image:

    - boot your machine from the bootable CD-ROM
    - restore your image using TrueImage from the external drive

Usually, it takes less than 30 minutes and the machine is restored.

Another option is clonezilla, which is free. It is text based but there are some good videos on youtube to walk you through the options.
