Moving Bulkhead back in LWB Transit(not crew cab)

    Hi,

With a 2013 long wheel base / semi high roof regular 3 seater transit, I want to move the bulkhead back to give more space behind the driver/passenger seats. Kinda like a crew cab but without the extra row of seats. This is so I can put my dogs in the cab part instead of back of van to get thrown around in etc and overheat in hot weather.

Is this ok to do without it effecting the DOE ?

I will probably need to get this done professionally as it will need to be safe and strong when there is a load in the back loading area and may need a new bulkhead as standard one may not fit when moved back.

Will I need an engineer report for this? (I'd like to think not)

    Thanks

Not too familiar with the Transit, but the bulkhead on a Hiace will fit the back with very little modification. If you intend placing it under the roof supports then there shouldn't be any major modifications needed that any panel beater won't be able to do for you.If you do need a new one, the old one can be sold for a few quid.

You might be just as well going to a professional fitters like EVM in Kilbeggan as they would do the whole job from beginning to end. You won't need to change the DOE as it's not affecting the carrying capacity of the van, but you should notify your insurance company.

You should also consider that the noise level in the cab will increase a lot, so consider cladding the walls and roof with carpet/sound insulation etc.

Thanks for the info Red Kev and for the mention of EVM.

Not that I'd have any problem notifying the insurance company but why contact them? if no extra seats etc / log book not changing.

They will probably be more confused than anything from dealing with them on other similar queries :)

You think it could effect a possible claim ?

A bulkhead isn't a necessity in a van; I've never been asked if the van has one or not (I got mine retro fitted). But if the worst came to the worst and you ended up with a major claim they can and will do and use anything to try to get out of it, or pay you less. I'd just notify them anyway to keep myself at peace.

    Yeah very true, good point.

Thanks for the info, will touch base with EVM Monday
