Did they not come with a 5 year warranty?

Would the engine be 5 though?

Warranty with Mercedes is only two years. On my previous van I had a lot of trouble so, the dealer gave me an extra third year warranty on my current van. Not worth the paper it's written on. Mb have to OK any warranty work a dealer does, and they will fight you every inch of the way.
I love Sprinters. I'm driving them and their predecessor's, 307, 308,407,408,410 since 1990 and I change them every 3 years. Once I kept a van for 5 yes and it broke my heart. Depending on your finance and how important your van is, my advice is try to change every 3 yes. And don't waste your time looking for MB to sort out your van, they will just do your head in

I believe all Mercedes 2.1 blocks are the same, should be handy enough sourcing a second hand block.

Are they are bad as their reputation suggests ?
Seem to be worse than PSA 1.6

I'm a fan of the 1.6 psa engine. It's a good engine, but does not tolerate poor servicing.
