Space saver, can of foam or full size wheel.

My Wife is buying a new Opel Corsa in January and has the option of a can of foam or €150 for a space saver. I would prefer to get a full size steel wheel for the car instead of the above two options.
Can anybody tell me if a full size wheel will fit properly in the boot wheel space and if the previous models ( pre 2016) wheel would work?
Also does the car come with Jack, wheelbrace etc. as standard or would I have to buy these as well.
    Thanks in advance.

Its to save weight and help with emissions.

Spacesaver is fine its adequate to get car to tyre garage and fix or replace tyre.

They are in no way designed to be left on and used daily but this is something many seem to do.

Can of foam useless if cut in tyre or bigger hole etc.

Spacesaver will be grand but get a better deal on price if possible.

That model Corsa has been on sale since 2006 so go see if a full size spare wheel will fit in the boot of an earlier model. My guess is that a full size spare wheel will not fit in the tyre well but a space saver will. Nothing wrong with a space saver as long as you understand that you can only drive at speeds up to 50mph/80kph on one. Much better than a can of gunk anyway imo. Just haggle on the price with the dealer.

I haven't done any haggling with him yet , I suppose if he really wants to sell it he'll throw it in for nothing.

Have they sorted the fire issues on them?

Corsa and firstly zafira breaking out and in quite a few bursting into flames very suddenly.

Look up watchdog on BBC from this week.
It should be well over the net also.
Now this was in Vauxhall ones but Opel is the same of course.

Worth looking into I am not sure if rectified in latest version.

Hard to know really. Its the same model since 2006 despite the Opel marketing department claiming it was all new in 2015 which was just a facelift really.

Do people stil buy Corsas? Serious question. You don't really see them as much these days.
I'd have my reservations - unless the buyer is a serial corsa buyer there are much better options out there for the money.

What would you consider better in the same price bracket ?

What price range is the Corsa in?

Hyundai i20, Renault Clio, Toyota Yaris, soon to be launched new Nissan Micra, they are all more modern than the Corsa.

If the dated bit doesn't bother you then look at the current Ford Fiesta, it's being replaced by a new model in mid 2017 so there might be good deals on the existing model. It's been around since 2009 but it has aged better than the Corsa and is superior in nearly every way that would matter. The Ka+ has recently been launched too, it's similar in size to the current Fiesta and Corsa even though it's aimed at the city car sized market. Might be worth a look.

Nissan Note, Hyundai i20, Kia Rio, Ford Fiesta (even though they're out a while they're still quite good) VW Polo, Toyota Yaris (not a 1.0 though) Mazda 2

I'd look at the alternatives a bit more OP unless you're set on a Corsa. As colm says, there's better choices out there.

On your tyre question I'd tend to agree. Full size spare would be a must for me as I do mostly motorway miles and a lot of them. Space-savers or cans of gunk may be grand if you only do city/local runs and have no issues with needing to fix/replace the punctured one asap.

I have looked at a lot of these models and ruled many out between Cabin size and
Quotation / trade in price etc. ( Ibiza, Hyundai, Clio, Dacia,Kia )
I had it down to three, Note, Corsa and Jazz.

The note was a good deal and spacious but didnt feel great to drive ,very cheap looking inside and the wife didnt like it at all. I was also told to stay away from 3 cylnder engines.

The entry level Jazz has a very good spec and had everything we wanted apart from alloy wheels but the end price was really pushing the limits with the 6.9% apr.

The corsa was the best deal of the lot with 0% apr, coming in €60 pm cheaper than the jazz.
We compared them side by side in a dealers and were really surprised at how roomy it was inside,
although the corsa is a lower ride, the three teenage kids had as much space in the back as the jazz and went back and forth between the two to be sure, very nice cockpit etc, the only thing was the back seat looked a little cheap.
I owned an old corsa a few years ago and the new model was a huge improvement over it.

Apart from the fire issue, what other reasons go against it ?

The current model is a facelift of a model launched nearly 11 years ago so they have fallen behind the competition. It's probably the main reason Opel are giving such good deals on them. But at the end of the day you're spending the money and only you can justify what you spend it on no matter what anyone else says.

She really would prefer the jazz as it will be a downsize coming from a large 7 seater.
Any Honda dealers about who are willing to do good deals?

Or any other car similar to the Jazz I might have overlooked

Unless you buy the space saver you'll need to buy the rest yourself. I wanted the spare wheel myself but not available on the corsa sri. Full size would fit though, a few people with the same problem as me went out and bought one.
