Can't upgrade existing policy for accidental damage insurance

I want to get accidental damage cover on a new TV I just bought and I've been told by my insurer:

Please be advised this cover cannot be added as the policy has already incepted and accidental cover was not taken when the policy was incepted.
If you do wish have accidental damage unfortunately you would need to move insurer.

I'm sure there is a logical reason for this but it seems bizarre to me. Is this standard practice with Home Insurance?

They likely feel if you didn't bother taking it out at the start and you are now looking for it that you probably did some accidental damage!
