Has anyone seen the new clothing range produced by blogger Sue? What do you all think of the various bits and pieces of the collection? I'm not sure what I was expecting but thought the pieces might have looked of nicer quality and more original in design. I feel like I've seen these pieces in loads of places before and from several years ago too. I suppose everyone's taste is different but for me,this collection has nothing "stand out" about it whatsoever .

I wouldn't be a fan of her style anyway so it's not a surprise I don't like it. Too glam, too fitted, into your face and a bit dated. Current trends are fairly relaxed, oversized or seventies inspired.

But then her followers probably like that kind of style so good luck to her.

It's not for me anyway, but at 31 I'm probably a lot older than her target customer, and I dress more casually and more understated.
Some of the stuff reminds me of what Jane Norman was putting out about 14 years ago, the blazers look like they're made from nylon-type fabric, and I'm not sure where she's going with the hugely embroidered fake leather jacket.
I'm not so familiar with her so I might be wrong in saying the stuff doesn't even look like what she typically wears?
But good luck to her, I'm sure the collection will sell out as she has a massive fan-base.

Not a fan of any of it, there's literally not one piece I would wear. I'm sure it's right up her followers' street though.

Your comparison hit's the nail on the head exactly - Jane Norman! That's exactly what it's like! It's like travelling back in time seeing the pieces in her collection! It probably would reflect her style a little bit in terms of a lot of the items being black and white.

You are spot on with the JN reference!! Some pieces seem a bit cheap but I too would be a bit older than her targeted audience. I do like some of it though and in general like her style. Having said that I'd always be very cautious about buying anything from any "blogger" range. I recently came across some jewellery pieces that were identical to a bloggers who has released a new "range". They were less than half price in a little gift shop e.g. €12 for a necklace where as the blogger would be selling them for €30/€40 plus..makes you wonder about mark up and the quality of what you are getting.

Same here .Not one piece I would wear either despite the collection having 35 pieces .Even the jeans wouldn't do it for me.

Black biker jacket it's perfectly fine if you don't mind PU and not want leather. Couple of bodysuits are ok to byt the problem is it's very hard for anyone above size 8 to wear those pieces.

As I said her aesthetic is not my thing at all but I do admire her entrepreneurship.

Just had a quick look at the collection. It doesn't pull together well as a clothing line, many of the items don't really complement each other. None of the items make you go "oh that's nice" or "if only I had the model's figure to go with it!" In fact a few of the pieces don't fit very well on the models. At a push if I was to pick something it would be the cropped jacket with the button detail but it's not tailored properly around the bust area.

I'd admire her more as an entrepreneur if she just found one niche and stuck to it. She has her finger stuck in every pie and so that just strikes me as someone who has no actual interest in anything she's just a corporate capitalist and wants money. Clothes, nail polish, contour kit, highlight kit, book.. all in the space of what, a year and a half? God knows what's next.

I have to say I agree with you. Launching a clothing line is a big thing in my opinion. I would have imagined there's a lot to do behind the scenes and even just online promotion etc around the time of the launch. If that was my business I would want to be right in the middle of it all, making sure everything was going as it should be.

I don't follow Sue on social media - has she done much promotion of her clothing line since it was launched? Has she shown the products on say Snapchat so people can see the fit or the quality?

In the same sweat shops as all other clothing is made.

That jeans line that the other blogger launched is not much better or interesting <SNIP>

That blogger actually designed her pieces though!

My previous reply was possibly a bit catty (but it was a flippant remark not particularly aimed at that blogger but at the whole industry of lending celebrity/blogger names to bunch of clothing and selling them. I firmly believe these are not collections done by designers, they are ventures to make money. And they should not be judged by artistic merit but by the profits. I am sure work went into both ventures and there might be even pieces that are completely usable but interesting they are not.

Thats true, and same for that jewellery collection that is being sold off at a ridiculous markup.

To be honest I find all the clothes in the collection very tacky and cheap looking. The reference to Jane Norman is very accurate, it is like looking at a collection from 2008/2009. It seems to me it was very rushed and not much thought was put into the style of clothes. I am sure they will sell out though, sometimes I feel people just buy items for the sake of saying I bought this bloggers item.

I'm not on snapchat so I don't know if she has been showing anything by that means. But she was wearing some of the clothes as an airport outfit the other day for flying to the Maldives for 4 days (bizarre enough to do in the middle of a clothes collection launch!) and the quality looked very very poor in my opinion.

I agree. Dabbling in a lot of different things rather than giving a greater effort to one or 2 items and coming up with a better quality outcome overall.

She talked about it in general in her snap chat. Price point. How she designed some pieces and some pieces she handpicked of designers in (I forget the 2 country's). She did a bit of promo on her Instagram page but didn't have a launch or anything. She said she is starting it of small as she wants to test the market first and see how it goes!?
I was expecting a much more sophisticated collection along the lines of what she wears! The only thing I like is one of the pairs of jeans! Didn't buy tho! Can't understand her going on holidays the day before it was launched! She could have waited until the day after at least! I know if I put my heart and the last year into designing my own clothing line I'd want to be there when it went on sale!

How is that a small collection?! It consists of everything but the kitchen sink

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 303 ✭✭Greenduck

Not a fan whatsoever. I think all the clothes were designed for size 6-10. I cant see anyone over that wearing a see through body suit etc. I think you could probably find most of the stuff on boohoo or misguided for a fraction of the cost. Fair play to her for trying but I cant see it being hugely popular considering the style shes gone for!

Yeh I don't like it; in saying that I don't like her style in general. Way too tacky for me.

    JN reference is spot on.

There's not one item in the range that I'd buy - possibly 2 I'd take if they were free!!

Agree that she has her fingers in far too many pies. It feels like she's just attaching her "name" to anything that will make her money.
