How early can GNIB cards renewed?

I found a discussion over here but there was no specific answer so instead of bumping that one I decided to create a new thread.

I will apply for a visa for my trip on February but my remaining resident permit will be less than 3 months (2 months 13 days to be exact). I already bought the tickets like a stupid, so now I am trying to find a solution.

My GNIB is due renewal on 05.2017. Can I renew it on 01.2017 or it's too early, anyone has idea?

edit: Called Garda Immigration Office but they didn't pick up the phone as usual

edit2: As reference for future, Immigration Office called me back and said that GNIB cards can be renewed up to 3 weeks before of expiry date. Which is only valid if you are on travel on the expiry date of the card.
