Indesign Export Settings

    Hi All,

I'm an architect and I use illustrator to finalize all drawing work and then present in Indesign. I've tried a few export settings from time to time but I notice one problem that I seem to be having with semi-transparent colours.

For example, if I have a light blue square representing glazing and I put 40% black (multiply) over a section of it to represent shadow, I find in some cases the shadow won't print where it's covering blue even though it looks ok on screen.

I tend to just export now with these settings and it appears to work ok but just wondering what people would advise as the best/foolproof settings for print.

    Standard: PDF/X-1a:2001
    Compatibility: Acrobat 4
Colour Conversion: Convert to Destination (Preserve Numbers)
    Destination: Photoshop 5 Default CMYK

Try printing exporting to a more recent version of PDF, some earlier versions have issue with transparency.

Alternatively just compile and publish/print/export final requirements direct from .ai.

Another option would be to use a standard gradient fill with 0% alpha to grey instead of using fill/overlay modes.
