Do Irish Rail annual leap tickets need validation?

I've ordered a taxsaver annual for next year - wondering does it need to be tagged on/off in the correct order. I exit Connolly via the carpark and currently have to negotiate my way through the barriers every evening to tag a conventional Leap back on.

Would save 1-2mins a day and eliminate the risk of missing a train if the barrier guard is missing. Actually don't even need to tag off to exit at the other end due to turnstiles but it's RPU I'm more concerned of.

Not if you are exiting the car park.

For the Leap Card to receive updates, such as a renewal of your tax saver ticket, or anything else, it needs to be tagged on and off to receive them. When using the tasaver ticket, it doesn't matter what order you do it in or which side of the gates.

That only matters when you are using the credit on the Leap Card. As the gates as setup for a Tag On side and a Tag Off side. The poles can do both Tag On and Tag Off.

On will happen every morning, can tag off easily in the mornings too. Once it saves me the hassle in the evenings that's the main advantage

Technically you do need to tag on and off. In reality I doubt they could do anything as you have a valid ticket.

I'm surprised RPU haven't asked annual Leapcard holders why they haven't tagged on if they check your leap card. Does that mean I can commute from Longford to Connolly every day and use a far cheaper Short Hop Zone annual card and if I run into an RPU official onboard around Clonsilla, I can just say I boarded at Maynooth? Not tagging on means they can't challenge where I exactly boarded. My only risk is if RPU are on the trains between Maynooth and Longford but I get the impression their blitzing of commuters usually is done within the high volume SHZ?

I live within SHZ so all above is irrelevant to me but is the potential there for someone to commit such a fraud? I think some wealthy investment banker did this in the UK commuting every day from a distance to London but only paid for a cheaper commuter option before he got caught after years of doing it.

They have blitzed Kildare from time to time and that's well outside the SHZ. They also hit the odd Portlaoise commuter.

They caught a fella a while back of over travelling on the yearly card. He was hit with a heafty fine. They will only be concerned if you card is valid for the journey that you are making.

Chances of the RPU fitting on the trains and being able to navigate by the time it gets in further are extremely low. Also Maynooth has barriers and validators so harder to make that claim, you'd have to say Kilcock ;pac:

    Gas.

You plague my threads with your Negative Nelly inputs, unhelpful comments and invasive queries and here's your thread asking how to knowingly avoid a possible RPU fine.

If you read again Laura you'd notice they aren't doing what you are inferring. Are you going to start digging through other posters who responded in your thread? That's rather bizarre. You were provided with genuine feedback on the issue you had regardless of you disagreeing with it.

Not all posters went as far as this guy pressing to know what time I opened my post at. It was invasive and down right rude, insinuating I was lying was an insult.

I've made my point, came to see what I needed to see and won my case so it's over, case closed.

Do you really need to dig up 3 month old threads to have pop when you already have 2 other threads going about it?
