So the folks have a regular sky sub on a hd box in the living room. Come christmas they like to light the fire in the sitting room and watch tv in there but no multiroom just saorview. Was thinking if I bought a second hand hd box and put it in the living room (there's a satellite cable link in there) is it just a matter of swapping the card from box to box when needed. Are the cards compatible with all versions of the box? cheers

Afaik you can't swap cards as the card is registered to the box that it normally works with. Ask over in the talk to sky forum. I know when I bought a new sky he box I had to ring sky to pair the old card with the new box.

Would it not be easier to just move the box for the duration?

If the box is connected to Wifi/Ethernet, you can do it that way. When you power up the box you just press a button to sync the card to the box.

Would you consider a FTA Sat or combi box as the secondary box?
It would allow most channels to be available in the second location without any cost or swapping of cards etc.

Cable between the two rooms and a magic eye would do the job.

Bought a 2nd hand box and when the card is inserted everything works except rte1 & 2. Happy enough.

Sky Service App, you can pair the card to the new box.

As for cables run a HDMI cable and use the Sky+ app to remotely control the box.
