Brake disc replacement

Just bought an 07 Suzuki swift from a main dealer. Got a good deal etc. When test driving I found the brakes soft so asked him to check them. He also had to adjust handbrake. Car runs very well and has 87000kms.
However, I did notice a squeal develop recently in the brakes and looking closely at the discs there is a considerable lip on the edge, at least 2mm. I mentioned this to them but no joy under their warranty cos brakes are consumable parts!

Anyway, I'm no expert, but do the discs sound like they need replacing and should I get this done by my local mechanic ?

    Any ideas of cost ?

Yes, get discs and pads replaced.
A set of pads and discs (for the two front wheels) are aprox 100 depending on brand, then add labour on top.
Just ring and get some quotes from local mechanics.
Any mechanic can do this job, just make sure they use a well-known brand.

Could be the pads are worn.

Thanks. I'm getting front tyres replaced this week so will get a proper look once wheels are off. Ill get a local guy to price up a new set then.

I got rear disc and pads set - aftermarket parts - for €95 quid about 6 weeks ago. Mine had been giving me trouble on one side, definitely a job worth doing.

Not with a 2mm lip on the disc, most discs can only have 1mm off each side before they are out of spec :( not that it stops people running them until they are wafers anyway
