Hilux underbody corrosion

    Hi
Just wondering if anyone else has come across corrosion on the underbody of their Hilux? I have a 07 SR5 from new. The corrosion underneath is pretty shocking. I've had it cleaned and repainted, but it's never going to go away. One of the fuel tank hangers snapped a few weeks ago. I don't know if it's a Toyota defect, or something to do with where I live. The fact that the towbar is well corroded too suggests the latter. The rear bumper is so bad that you can poke holes with your finger. I don't live next to the sea, and don't tow boats or anything. Although the council tends to salt the ****e out of the roads around here in winter, none of my neighbours cars show this kind of corrosion, and the wife's car is perfect.
When you buy a new Hilux, you'd be expecting that this sort of crap doesn't happen. I'm thinking of changing next year, and my experience with this is putting me off buying new. (Not to mention that the new Hilux is just too ugly for words.)
Has anyone else come across this?
    Thanks

Hi Outfox, definately a Toyota thing I've seen another Hilux in last few weeks having to have crossmember in chassis above fuel tank cut out and new one welded in.. The rest of chassis all covered in rust also which will be impossible to cure as is on inside of rails also..

Seen an 08 landcruiser that was red rotten underneath. Don't make 'em like they used to.

All too common on toyota landcruisers and hiluxs.

I have seen many come in with serious corrosion isuues even quite modern ones. A few months back I was working on a 09 Landcruiser that failed its CVRT on rust in floor under the boot, its only 7 years old!

It's like going back to the 70s, when Toyotas rusted away to nothing.
If buying new, is there anything that the dealer can do to minimise the risk of corrosion? I've heard good and bad reports about undersealing.

Spraying wax on the the underboday and into cavities is a huge help, if done in time. I do it on all my vehicles and do a top up spary every service or every year. Keeps it perfect as corrosion cannot occur.

I also paint on grease onto all my steel brake pipes with a brush. rarely have a rusty brake pipe and they will last forever.
