Yet another example of extreme political correctness from Dublin city council.

    http://www.irishtimes.com/news/environment/speed-limit-of-30km-h-on-streets-throughout-dublin-approved-by-council-1.2894302

Plans to cut speed limits to 30km/h on residential streets throughout Dublin city and suburbs have been approved by the city council, despite opposition from motorist lobby group AA Ireland.
The lower limits will be introduced on a phased basis from next year. The 30km/h limit will apply on almost all roads and streets as far as the council’s boundary with the four other Dublin local authorities, excluding “arterial” roads.
The bylaws were made available for public consultation earlier this year and 550 submissions were received with about 170 opposed to the imposition of 30km/h limits.
AA Ireland has described the widespread application of the 30km/h limit as “absurd” and having the potential to undermine road safety. As part of the bylaw consultation process, the AA sought to increase limits on larger access routes to the city, including parts of the city centre which have had a 30km/h limit since 2011.

Speed limit on the roads? Ah that's not so bad.

I thought you meant the was a speed limit for pedestrians. Nobody's gonna stop me tearing up Henry St at 40kph looking for a gift at 5:56pm on Christmas Eve!

    It's tradition ffs.

Don't you mean the city council brigade?

Cyclists will continue to plow on at 50 km/h and through red lights as well.

Who's going to stop them exceeding the speed limits? The rules of the roads apply to them too.

Thank Christ speed limits don't apply to cyclists:)

Can motorist now be guaranteed an average speed of 30km/h in Dublin? That's a change for the better.

And, yet again, misuse of the 'political correctness' term.

Speed limits only apply to motorised vehicles

Ah come on. How hard is it to get your legs turning at 50kph?

Why shouldn't they though? If you want equal respect and equal privileges, you need to accept equal responsibilities.

I suggest you familiarise yourself with the RoTR;)

In particular you may then appreciate different laws apply in different scenarios.

So you only advocate cyclists having the rights of motorists with none of the responsibilities? Can you see why there is resentment towards cyclists?

What if I am driving the correct way down a one-way street and a cyclist comes up the wrong way? Am I obliged to yield to it an pull in?

Anyone know what the cyclist version of Godwin's law is called?

I think its generally a good thing. The academic research says lives will be saved with a 30kph limit, hard to argue with that really.

Mod: OP, no more troll threads please. Potentially a discussion to be had here but if you keep shoehorning the PC argument into every subject you'll not be here much longer.
