Rear Mudguard

Just wondering about this. I have SKS raceblade Chromoplastic mudguards fitted to the road bike. Both the flap and a small piece of the metal broke off on the fornt and back mudguard. The rear mudguard overs about 3-4 inches behind the cassette in terms of length now. I was wondering is it pointless having what remains of it attached in terms of providing any cover in the wet and the font is likewise in terms of now being about 4-5 inches in length from where it attaches to the front fork.
