Has anyone used any of the Cars for Cash Services in Dublin?

Have a car for sale on the usual websites but no takers. Its in too good condition to scrap, but its just sitting outside the house looking at me!

    Thanks in advance.

It will still be more than you get from Cars for Cash

Believe it or not, i've been doing that. Think December is a bad month to be selling.

What car is it? Can you post a link to the ad?

The cash for cars crowds should only be considered as a last resort.

I've actually come across this ad recently and thought it was excellent. The description is very well written and it is priced well. If I had to change anything it would be the pictures - the ones you have at the moment aren't bad but they don't grab my attention. I've had a few E46's over the years and sometimes they can take a while to shift, mainly due to the tax but insurance is probably a factor that's putting a lot of lads (including myself) off buying at the moment. I think the price is right. It might be best to wait it out for a while, just bump it up every couple of weeks. Join a specialist forum (BMWhaus.ie) and put an ad there too.

Thanks, have it on BMWhaus as well.

The €1k tax kills it IMO.
Might sound harsh but I think it's more a €2k car.

Tax is a negative, but its worth more than €2K.

Op I kinda second with colm, yeah it's probably 'worth' more in a sense but it's only worth it to someone who can't get better for less.

You're trying to sell to a bad climate at a bad time, its e1000 tax without the power to justify it, 12 year old so probably a pain for most to get insurance.

It does look like a brilliant example with a very well put together add, but as you can see from the lack of bites, it's hard to shift stuff like that unless you let it go for peanuts. It's a real shame but that's the situation we find ourselves in given our current motoring setup.

But a 'cash for copper' crowd from a traffic light signpost won't give much more than 1 - 1.5k I reckon.

2k and you'll sell it quick, but I really hope you get a lot more for it

Unfortunately as you know - a huge percentage of those out there only care about the price of the tax when buying a car.. not much else comes into it in my experience... hence, why nice cars are so cheap to buy

I'd guess they will offer you at most a grand. Most if not all of these outfits are chancers. Be careful above all

As for a 12 year old car with road tax nearly a grand admitting to over 160k km ...not going to fetch anything like €3100

Nonsense. It's a high spec, and well maintained example. And it's mileage is reasonable for the age. OP will just have to wait for the right buyer, or continue to gradually drop the price. It all depends on how eager they are to sell really.

Classed as a high performance car , but also over ten years old so most insurance companies wont touch it makes it a hard sale. Sucks as the car is nice.

That's a lovely car, nice spec and looks well maintained. I wish for your sake it was a 3k car but the list of things going against it is big.
As previously said, tax is 1k a year,
Fuel economy will be poor, insurance companies add a premium for a coupe sadly, year of the vehicle means most insurance companies won't even quote it.
Someone with a motor trade policy could go for it but as for the Cash for cars lads, expect an offer of less then a grand.

Luckily i'm an old git so the insurance isnt a killer for me. neither is the tax. what would a potential buyer be looking for when buying a car such as this?

If you are interested in the car, just pm me.

The fact that it's over a decade old will put people off because of all the media coverage about insurance companies refusing to insure >10-year-old cars. It's rubbish but it is being widely reported so it's understandable. As already mentioned, the tax is also a big deterrent.

If you look at it from the perspective of most people who are in the market for a second-hand car, they are looking at the overall cost to them and if you're the type to pay up front to save money long term, that's an outlay of the guts of €5,000 to buy an old car, which is utter madness when you could spend less on something far newer and massively cheaper to run for a few years.

I would pay €2,000 max for it but I'm not in the market for a coupé for another 18 years or so!
