Saw a car today walking into work with a 12 MH reg

front plate white, back plate yellow, and the H was made to really look almost like a K.

presume this is to prevent the speed cameras from reading the reg correctly?

Surely a plate like that is illegal

People in border areas seem to go for these yellow plates.

I'd guess the MK is because his name is Mark or some stupid reason. It's not going to fool a speed camera / M50 camera as any exceptions will be manually read.

Yes it's illegal. He probably has a legal set to put on for the NCT.

first of all, Ive never seen a car walk anywhere, only if it was a transformer :P
in regards to the plate itself, was it those metal ones where the paint peels easily or plastic, if its plastic then he got it made himself, if its the metal ones, i know the paint can peel on them

Maybe they really like speaking to Gardai?

I have seen the paint peel, but they were probably cheap ones anyway, but sounds like a custom plate, there looking for attention from the fuzz

Having been through many a checkpoint all over the country with border county style plates on my car (but 2 white plates, no yellow behind) not a single garda has brought them up in conversation. I have heard many stories from people I know with fe script plates getting shafted... Rightly so!

As for anpr not reading them, a load of baloney. Car park anpr cant read them, with hilarious results at times, but garda anpr can definitely read them...

Fe script doesn't break any laws if the spacing and size is correct.

    ..........border county style plates............

    Worse than fe script imo

I disagree. FE font looks crap despite being legal under the right circumstances

    But that's your opinion though

It wasn't an MX5 by any chance? I have seen a few MH reg MX5 where the H was made to look like an X. Helps if the first digit is a 5.

Don't have specifics handy, but there's a difference between legality and NCT compliance :pac:
