Best VR Game

360 and PS3 have been dropped as categories. Vita and Wii U haven't had a massive amount of releases, so download and retail have been combined for both. This is also the first year for VR games.

This is the first of 3 groups. The next group (the "Fun" awards) will go up at the weekend.

Does PC game Retail and Download Only need to be split up ?

I have NO idea what games were on sale for retail on PC or which ones were Download only, as I assume ALL were available to download.

If in doubt, check on Amazon to see if there's a boxed version.

As a rule of thumb, 'retail' games are usually AAA ones - so things like Overwatch, Doom, Dark Souls 3, Titanfall etc... would belong there instead of the download category. The lines are fuzzier with PC for sure, but personally I always feel the download categories are a place for smaller games to shine

I bought Overwatch & DOOM retail, and both just had codes in the box.

Titanfall 2 is same.

Could just name the categories as AAA/Indie rather than Retail/Download? Might not work for all titles I suppose but I would think most games that would be considered "Retail" would be AAA too?

Imho, Group 3 is by far more interesting.

Groups 1 and 2 were a bit bloated. Maybe less categories next year? Not that I dont appreciate the efforts you've put into it Mr E

That being said, Overall 2016 has not been a GREAT year for Gaming imho, lots of remasters and delays and rereleases etc

Also goes to show how poor the Wii U's releases have been this year that Starfox is like the only 1st party IP they made a game for

Really good to see Blood and Wine get a lot of recognition. For a DLC expansion it had more content and enjoyment than a lot of full AAA games.

Happy with Stardew Valley getting best downloadable of the year.

Overall I think the results are pretty fair. Also I think I really need to try and get Doom sometime this year.

I think The Witness releasing in January hurt its chances as a lot of people would have forgotten it, it was my GOTY by a mile. Been a long time since a game blew my mind like this, and the puzzle design was just incredible.
