I will be caring for a cat that is coming from the US ahead of its owner in a couple of weeks time. (This is going to be great fun as I have two adult, rather unsociable cats indoor/outdoor, the one that is coming is indoor and not 'cat socialised' so I suspect there will be war zones. Plan at the moment is to confine the new cat to one room as there are food issues.)

Anyway the food issues is why I am requesting help. The new cat needs grain free food. I could prepare just meat but is there any Irish available cereal free wet food? Can anyone suggest anything please?

Expensive but you get what you pay for. I supplement with grain free dry to reduce costs.

I should possibly explain that the cat has been treated for bladder (?) stones and the Vet advised that she should have an 'acid' diet - no grain. She does seem to react badly to food with cereal anyway, so it is a good idea to keep her on the special diet. She's an amazingly expensive animal for a moggy :D

You did not specify wet or dry but Taste of the Wild or Porta 21 Finest sensitive (only one version is grain free so be careful!) are your cheapest options for grain free kibble. You also have Applaws, Acana, Orijen and a few other more expensive brands as well.

For wet food once again no need to go to Lily's as there are plenty of cheaper wet foods that are all grain free but the thing to read is the fine print if they are complete or not (it's about a 50-50 split) and if they are not complete kibble is mandatory to be eaten as well for nutrition.
For starters you have Bozita; grain free and cheap as chips made in Sweden so no major worry about dubious quality etc. Recommend the can version of tetra pack because can version tend to go down better over all and chicken cans is the general go to option. Next up you have Animonda Carny (and make sure it's Carny as there are multiple Animonda versions) which also goes down quite well. Grau also does grain free; German made. Now all those three are complete foods; moving on to non complete we have porta 21, applaws, taste of the wild and Cosma & Cosma Nature which are all meat in broth or jelly. They are not complete but can work great as treat food or used to mix in food in them.

On top of that highly recommend a Feliway plug in along with Zylkene daily in all cats diet.

The Bozita sounds great, my only reservation would be the experience that anything you get in bulk for a cat they promptly go off it :D I will give it a try though.

Also the Zylkene would be good till she settles down. I would give it to my nervy cat but if the other one scoffed it (which she would, she always gets first dibs at the food) she would pass out completely, she is a very laid back tabby.

I don't want to use the Feliway as I have a very chemical sensitive relative who could be upset by it.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Go with Chicken in a can; that one has been the most accepted across all our cats & fosters and in worst case scenario you get to donate some to the local cat shelter :)

It will not knock them out but rather make then less likely to stress up in the first place. As for serving it you can mix it in with either treats to both at the same time (tea spoon of plain greek yougurt for example which is very low on lactos and most cats just looooove), two bowls feeding at the same time or simply mix it up in the general wet food. In the end even some of it will help and due to being a natural protein it has no worries if one cat ends up with two pills a day rather than one or 1.5 pills.

My cats have been on Bozita for yonks, and love it. I do rotate between flavours just to keep them on their toes. Also I prefer the tetra paks to cans but that's just my own yuk factor.

I'd prefer them to be on tetra but they simply do not do meat chunks in jelly :( Hence when I rotate it in it has to be the canned chicken as it's solid and I've seen a few other having similar experiences. That's why I always recommend the cans over tetra as a starting point even if I think tetra is easier to handle and store.

We use Purizon dry food and a selection of wet foods for our finicky lot. Staples are Animonda Vom Feinsten, Catessy Pate (they now have pouches too that are grain free), Smilla 200g poultry and tuna pots and some pouches like Miamor. Our lot wasn't too impressed with Bozita.
