:confused:Hope this is the right place? Only, I need it for a TV I bought 'through' here.

Lovely little flat screen telly. Can't hear a bloody thing out of it! Even with my new hearing aids. Mate says I need HDMI / Audio, so I can plug my earphones into that.

Looking at This. Because one half the price doesn't ship to Ireland.

No heated rush. So, I thought I'd give you peeps a day or two to suggest anything better :)

    Thanks.

    What TV did you get?

Presumably it doesn't have a headphone jack?

The device you linked will just give a standard analogue audio output for plugging into an amp after. Not really designed for headphones. Besides, your TV presumably has Scart for analogue output too...

From your previous thread it seems you have an lg TV. On mine the headphone jack isn't obviously marked. It's just a square bit of plastic with a hole in it.

Just checked specs of yours and it doesn't have one.

You could use a sound bar.

Thanks, lads. Yes, I have a little LG. And, yes, there is no phone jack. And I can't hear a damn thing out of it :(

Byte; Appreciate ye pointing out that's, basically, the wrong piece of kit.

Colm; Lawd!!! Are the ones costing the same as my telly even worth the punt? Or, should I buy a €600.00 one, to make my €130.00 thing 'work'?!

    Horror Of Horrors!!!

There surely must be a less drastic way? I'm not looking to listen to concerts here. Sorry. I should have made it clearer: I only ever play games on my TV :)

    Thanks.

You could look at putting something behind the Tv for the sound to bounce off. Speakers are probably rear facing.

Another option is a set of amplified pc speakers (€40 or so) and the hdmi and 3.5mm lead you mentioned.

Would not anything running through a 3.5mm lead allow me to use headphones?

Yes. Some speakers will have a headphone socket too. The key thing is that it's amplifying the signal from the hdmi

The HDMI connector on a TV is an input not an output so there is no way you can use that box.

Wouldn't the output be coming from the games console end though?

If it were a games console, maybe there's a headset that pairs with it?

Otherwise, like Colm said, perhaps the amplified PC speakers, rigged up with an adapter to the Scart socket on TV? Scart socket would need to have audio out (might not have converted audio out from HDMI source). Buy PC speakers that, in turn, have their own headphone jack...

Okay. Byte: It's a PS3. Sorry. Did I not make that clear, earlier? No matter. Sorry about that :o

Is there an optical out port on the TV? If so, you could get a sound bar and connect it to the TV

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,546 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

No digital or analog audio out on that TV

There would be an optical output on the PS3 though. Or get a headset designed to work directly with the PS3.

    That right.

If your hearing aids support "The Loop" then you could install a loop transmitter and have pristine sound.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,609 ✭✭✭Stigura

    The Loop ....???

    Okay. Thanks. (Genuinely)

I really have no idea what this Loop is, or if my aids deal with it. Perhaps you use them, and know what ye talking about? I do and don't :o

I do have this third button on mine though. 1 + 2 are volume, up and down. 3? I think it's to do with those counters where the person behind the glass ..... Dunno. I never encounter people like that, in town.

Is there a thing I can get though ....? It'd be such a blessing!

Button three sounds like t-coil. An old technology that many hearing aids have. Have it in my hearing aids, and it allows me better sound.

BUUUUT how old is your hearing aid? Some of the newer ones have bluetooth. Make and model of your hearing aids.

When you have the make and model, let me know what the model is. The people at http://www.deafhear.ie have a few things that could assist you. They have a location in Dublin.

Looks like the screen you have is more a monitor than a TV.

    Siemens " Teneo HP's ", it seems.

Trouble is; I'm on a medical card, so I don't suppose I could do much about it in Dublin.

I'm sure they said they'll be having me back into the clinic, at some point, though. They want to see how I'm getting on with them. That'd be a good time for me to mention this problem. No idea when that might be though.

The HDMI port has ARC - ie an Audio Return Channel.

Its enabled through SIMPLINK on an LG.

@ Stigura. The box you bought is fine. You will need to connect a hdmi cable between the TV's HDMI at the back and the that little boxes input (I see one is supplied with the box you bought). Connect your headphones to the headphone socket.

You will also have to go into your TV's settings and change the settings to Sound ► Sound Out ► Audio Out (Optical/HDMI ARC).

You may find that you will have to extend the cable on your headphones unless they already have a long lead, but the little extensions (mini jack to mini jack socket/Headphone Extender are dirt cheap on ebay).

You could also consider buying a little set of powered speakers that you can position in the room either side of your head. Coupled with that little device you bought, it means you wont need the headphones.

    Not so cheap;https://www.deafhear.ie/DeafHear/productList.html?who=4

I have the latter neck loop. It's awesome. I actually have two. I can put one around my neck, under my shirt, and walk around with the music in my ears, although you can look a bit demented as no-one can see headphones :D

If you get the €16 neck loop, and a long extension lead to plug into the HDMI audio box, you'll get great sound out of them!

Oh, and does this one automatically level out the noise? I got my hearing aid person to add a program that doesn't, so instead of it normalising music, all music to would goto my hears.

Sixteen quid?!? That could work?! Only, I was looking at the 'couple of ton or so' stuff there and stroking my beard. That sort of kit could be possible ~ christ; We're looking at me being able to Hear **** here! What price on that?

But, sixteen quid?! I think I'll buy one, just because! Shouldn't need an extension either, really. My TV's only 21" and I have to crouch really close to it, to see the little buggers taking pot shots at me anyway

Yeah. Sod it. I'll get one of those. Wait for my other bits to arrive and try that out. If it works? That'll be a god send. If not? I'll wait till they call me back in and will ask them about my chances with the box and so forth.

Technically, it's a headset, but instead of going over your head, it goes around your neck and transmits wirelessly to your hearing aids. BUT only if it has t-coil.

Looking at https://www.bestsound-technology.co.uk/nhs/hearing-aids/teneo/ it seems it may not have the t-coil.

Can you find out if you have the Siemens Teneo "HP", or the "HP+"? The latter mentions "e2e Wireless™ providing binaural control, DSP linking and Bluetooth® streaming via easyTek" which I'm unsure about.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,609 ✭✭✭Stigura

Jesus, Syco; I have the full manual here. And, of course, it covers at least three different sorts of aid. Truth be known? I knew mine were one of two out of three, simply by the battery they take!

Nope. The f**kers. I've tried to google them. I can't find an outward difference between the HP and the +!

Regarding; "e2e Wireless™ providing binaural control, DSP linking and Bluetooth® streaming via easyTek", which you're unsure about? I haven't got the faintest bloody clue!

I have a phone number here. Friday, today. Maybe I'll just ring that number and try to make head or tail of some of this?
