Convoy This Evening

Just a while ago on the M50 NB, a Garda car was escorting an NAS advanced paramedic vehicle, followed by an NAS ambulance, followed by what appeared to be another NAS advanced paramedic vehicle. There seemed to be someone in the back of the ambulance. They exited off the M50 and seemed to go down the N7 perhaps to Tallaght. I haven't seen such a convoy before.

Medical escort very common to be honest

Not at all common to see two NAS RRVs escorting a NAS ambulance. Normally if it's a NAS resource needing a Garda escort it will be one ambulance and whatever number of Garda vehicles they deem necessary. You would only ever see one RRV if the crew asked for ALS so what you have described is pretty unusual.

I've seen plenty of ambulances going to hospital with the rrv in convoy. This one might have had one or the doctor led rrv out too and they could have been in the ambulance. Garda could have been at scene and had a member driving on of the other vehicles too.

Question, would a Paramedic motorbike assist an appliance with heavy traffic?

    This too shall pass.

You've seen plenty of ambulances being escorted by TWO NAS RRVs and only one patrol car? Ye must be spoiled up in the shmoke!

My point is originally to Pogan, that an escort involving two NAS RRVs would be an unusual sight. We only have an RRV on the road only if one crew member isn't working and there is nobody to cover the shift, then the lone member goes on the RRV. Therefore to have two would mean they would crew up and put an ambulance on the road.

Doctor led RRVs where I'm from aren't NAS RRVs, they are stand alone doctors RRVs.

My point is this: It's unusual and that would be the answer I would give to Trebor176.

Thanks for the responses. I had been driving, so couldn't focus too long on what passed. Certainly, there was the Garda car leading, the RRV and the ambulance. Thinking back, I think the last vehicle was a Mitsubishi Pajero. It's only dawning on me that there are some in the Garda fleet, so it could well have been another Garda vehicle.

Never said I saw a convoy with two RRV's just speculating as to the possible make up. We've only the one doctor led RRV up here at the moment using the old ECRR Volvo. And I know they're not NAS assets but are dispatched by them.

Fair enough but my reply was regards Pogans reply that it's quite common.....it isn't. I've often had escorts to Dublin but never in that configuration, likewise I've never had two NAS RRVs on a call because of the reasons I've stated above.

What was described above is UNCOMMON. That's my only point.

I've seen it a few times up in Dublin. I think RRV's are much more common up here maybe too. For example Loughlinstown has people rostered to RRV shifts, Newcastle in Wicklow is a base with only an RRV etc. Will also quite often see officers responding to incidents be it from home, some other location or the Rivers building in Tallaght (They all have RRV's - or ORV's to be precise).

If i was to guess an ambulance, AP RRV and officer attended an incident with the gards. The AP's RRV could have been driven by a garda from the scene with the AP in the back of ambo.

This call was a critically injured minor with a number of personnel delivering advanced care, that is all I'm saying on it.

Other times you may see a number of RRV's plus an ambulance when the ECMO teams are transporting patients. There is a huge amount of equipment transported from the airport to these patients and back to the airport again so a number of vehicles are used.
