Bayonet vs Screw-in

I know that bayonet fittings for light bulbs are pretty standard in Ireland; while screw-in seem to standard elsewhere. There seems to a greater number of screw-in bulbs available in stores here and I just wonder does this signal the demise of bayonet fittings (in the future).

And so to my real question; can one get screw-in fittings for regular pendant lights (the old standard light fitting from a lead into a ceiling rose)?

    Thanks

Ikea do adapters that you can use. Very handy. I'm sure you can get them in other places too eBay and the likes.

All the major supermarkets still sell BC (Bayonet) fitting bulbs, they're not going to disappear overnight. I think the move to Edison Screw (ES) bulbs in Ireland is mainly down to IKEA, anything I ever bought there has screw-in bulbs. Unless you're dead set on a specific bulb that is not available with a bayonet fitting, I wouldn't bother with adapters.

A few months ago, I was thinking the same thing, but in recent times, there's a lot more available now with bayonet fittings, the same shape as "traditional" bulbs,so they look OK in pretty much any fitting, and at sensible prices, even low. As someone mentioned, IKEA only have ES style (or GU10), but they have ES to bayonet converters for small money, though if the bulb is a tight fit in the lamp, the converter may make it hard to fit a new bulb into the fitting.

Mr Price has just opened a branch in Ashbourne (no connection other than as a happy buyer) and they have a range of LED bulbs with bayonet caps on them. For more specialist bulbs, the best bet at the moment seems to be the specialist electrical sellers, they seem to have a much wider range than was the case, though the larger DIY stores like Homebase seem to be catching up now.

Newer outdoor lamps though are coming in with ES fittings in them, I replaced some outdoor wall lights last week, and the new ones are ES fittings.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁
