Rad thermostat valves

I had a new heating system installed a few years ago (3 or 4). It was a very good job, new condensing boiler, all old microbore pipes replaced and new rads where necessary. The only control is the two wall thermostats, and turning the individual rads on or off - not easy.

At the time I suggested that I would like thermostats on the radiators so I could easily control them individually, but I was put off by the plumber with an explanation about them not being necessary or compatible (not sure which) with the wall thermostats. I allowed myself to be convinced, but I would still like to have them.

Is there any reason why thermostats could or should not be fitted to the system?

What are the existing wall stats controlling? Oil or gas heating?

Maybe didn't format it very well, but there were 2 questions.

Oh, sorry, they control the boiler going on or off depending on the temperature in the room.

Are they controlling the boiler directly or through zone valves?

Zone valves I presume, there is one in a room downstairs and one upstairs.

No reason that I can see not to have thermostatic rad valves. You wouldn't put them on rads that room stat is in though.

Room stats with timers would give you more control. Programmable radiator stats even more control.

There are systems that can control each individual radiator also.

Thanks for that, I could not really see myself why it would be a problem. The simple individual ones would be quite adequate for what I need, I will look at getting it done I think.
