So due to an expanding family i have to change car to a 7 seater. Have decided on the Ford Smax but confused over the different models ie Zetec v Titanium and also the different engine sizes. I am fairly clueless about cars so in need of some advise. Have seen a 131 Zetec 1560 engine I like that is within my price range but should I be looking at the bigger engine?? Also does the difference between the zetec and titanium warrant the huge price difference

The S-Max is a very expensive when new especially the higher spec Titanium model. Being a big 7 seater I'd be very reluctant to go with a small 1.6 litre engine in a vehicle that size especially if it's loaded down with passengers. Titanium model has more toys and creature comforts than the Zetec so it really depends on how much value you put on them. Maybe look at the UK where are is a bigger variety of the bigger engine/higher spec variants.

2014 zetec were all 2.0 litre as they got the emissions down to the same band as the 1.6, also they have more options than the 131 as it was the run out year before the new model came out (Which was delayed) so they have 17" alloys, sat nav and electric folding mirrors so if you can go for 2014.
The titanium spec is very high, I think the 141 had leather seats etc.
I have a zetec myself great car for carting kids and all their clobber, don't think I'd want anything smaller than 2.0 if you are going to fill it up and do longer journeys.

We're downsizing our S-Max but at 1.8L it handled the 5 of us, 5 fully checked bags, 5 carry ons for the airports runs across the years and no issue whatsoever but I have to say 1.6 does appear a tad on the light side, the car in itself needs to me moved whatever about fully loaded

Thanks for all your replies, i was thinking alright that the 1.6 wasnt the best option to go for but just needed to confirm. I am not too particular about having a high spec, just need a comfortable and reliable car that will do me a few years as there wont be an option to change for a while so ill stay with the Zetec. Id love to get the 2014 ml100 but im pushing the budget more than I should even trying to get a 2013, and even at that i'll probably have to go up north to get it (another thing im nervous about)!
