Gaelscoil waiting list-chances of getting a place...?

We put our little girls name down for a place in the local gaelscoil last Christmas (she is due to start school in Sept 2018) she is currently no 69 of new families. The school operates a sibling policy & the secetary said to add on approx 30/40 places to accomodate for them, coincidentally we know of quite a few siblings due to start that year & 6 of her playschool friends will be going in 2018 too & they are all above her on the list. I spoke to the principle during the week & he said anything can happen between now & then & where the demand is there for the place they do all they can to acomodate... Has anyone been further down a list in a school & got a place? We really want this particular school as we have bought a house directly across the road (plus it has a very good reputation & the secetary & principle were so lovely on the phone!!)

How many places are there for Junior Infants in 2018?
And when is your daughter's birthday? Will she be 4 or 5 in September 2018?

I would stick her name down in a few schools.
We put our daughters name down when we moved here at 14 months and we didn't stand a chance.
69 doesn't sound too bad:( depending on how many kids they take.
Ours takes 64 and most are siblings, I ended up driving 50km a day for JI but then 1 kid left and 2 got kept back so we got a place in SI.

In our daughters year we got the 1 available space for new families and her name was down from 6 weeks!!
60 places, 30 went to siblings , 19 to kids of past pupils and 10 went to kids who speak Irish at home.

I can't quite remember where we where in the list. A good few people don't take places when offered.

Most parents in ours do take up the places but it varies.

Most parents in ours do take up the places but it varies.

The headmaster explained that they offer places later than some other schools , and kids will accept places in other schools and that if the parents have bought a uniform for a different school they are unlikely to accept a place. Or that if the kid is 4 some parents might hold them back a year as they might bit be ready

Thanks for the replies, there will be 2 JI classes in 2018, she is availing of both ECCE years so will be 5.5 starting, however on the admissions policy it is siblings of current, followed by siblings of past pupils then it goes to waiting list in the order date applied so first come first served(we are 69 of new families)We have her name down for another school about 5 miles away, the others we will have to wait until Jan 2018 to enrol but we have our heart set on the Gaelscoil now seeing as we will be living directly across the road.. I don't think our chances are too good though....
