I am about 20000km from when the book specifies that I should change my timing belt. Are you safe up to the mileage it actually states or should it be changed beforehand. Car is an audi A4 1.9Tdi. Belt would have been changed only 4 years ago and that 20000km will be done easily before this time next year.

Timing belt is made of rubber, and that would perish regardless of mileage. That's why manuals are saying "every xxx miles or yyy years whichever's sooner".

Get it done asap, better safe than sorry.
