Hey, short post as I'm on mobile but basically I have a 2011 2 liter diesel avensis and I noticed today that both the tires in the front and back of the passenger side are unevenly worn. The front and back of the drivers side is wearing perfectly fine!

Any ideas on cause or somewhere to have it looked at in the Limerick area?

    Thanks :)

When did you last have the alignment checked? should be done every year at least. Could be worn suspension components too.

I haven't had the alignment checked to be totally honest. I was under the illusion if it's not pulling to the side on a straight level road the alignment is okay? (Sorry if that sounds dumb!)

Its going in for an NCT on Tuesday so hopefully they can point out anything obviously worn. I'm just trying to gauge is this going to be a pain in the arse to fix or not.

One or more of your steering or suspension components is worn or damaged. The nct will highlight the issue.

It's that or the car may have been in a crash?

Car was bought 11 months ago from a main dealer. No signs of a crash, no damage anywhere, car was extensively looked over by a mechanic as I was buying cash and needed to be a confident.

Car handles great, no knocking or clicking. Nothing weird at all!

Unfortunately that is just an illusion, worth getting it checked out now you have an issue

Thanks a million for the help! I'll welly it up to the NCT and if it passes or not I'll still be getting it looked at straight away. I put 4 new tires on it about 8 months ago and now the two on passenger side are in an awful state of affairs.

    Thanks again :)

Actually while we're on the topic! Could alignment being out cause wear on one side of a the REAR tire also? I have no idea, but from googling around most are saying camber is the issue that alignment wouldn't cause wear on rear tire?

Ok. Yes. It's around here you will see rubber bushings go. Especially passenger side from the potholes/drains etc. I'm going to bet on wishbone bushings if no clunks and bumps.

Let the nct flag it for you then go buy some febi replacements and get them fitted.

I do unusually high mileage so it's not surprising. Thanks a lot man! Greatly appreciated! :)

No guarantees but I'd bet a few quid that's what you're looking at. Hope it's not too painful on the old pay packet.

Good luck. Let us know what happens will you?

Yeah I'll keep you posted! To be honest the car doesn't owe me a cent as it is, by far the most reliable car I've ever driven. My only problem is finding a reliable mechanic!

Don't really know anyone down there. Galway is my stomping ground. Sorry.

Did you check the Tyre pressure, I know it sounds simple but I didn't have enough pressure in my front wheels and wore out the shoulder of the tyre

No need to apologise! I'll find one eventually, I've been recommended a guy out near Clonlara to try - He'll be my next port of call. I need to get the fan-belt done anyway.

Yeah I've checked that. I just found it really unusual for the nearside tires to be worn in that pattern and the other two were fine! :o

It passed. Had a chat with the guy who tested it, I pointed out the uneven wear, he said he didn't even notice. Went out and had a look with him, he said its really not even noticeable unless you go out of your way to find a problem and not to worry about it!

He also mentioned his own car is the same and no matter what he did he couldn't fix it.
