I essentially would like Sky.. for free. I often watch the food network and sky living those are important. Is there anything I can get for that?

Not legally no. And we can't talk about illegal card sharing here.

Bah humbug. What do you usually get out of these? Just like RTÉ, 3e, BBC, CH4 and the likes?

You want Sky channels, then pay Sky for them.

There are lots of channels available besides the Sky channels without a monthly subscription.

I can't afford sky that's why I asked if it was possible to get sky living and food network for free on a FTA box. I don't want to start getting into illegal things.

Do you have broadband from virgin media? If so you can get sky living by splitting the cable and plugging it into your tv. Food network is FTA on satellite.

Yeah I do. How does that work?

I have cancelled my sky sub, I like the free channels but hate how they are scattered in the channel line up.

Can I buy a free to air box and plug it in and have all the free channels together?

Not bothered about HD etc, an option to record using a flash key would be nice.

    Whats the best budget option?

    Yep
you could go for a straight forward box like the ariva or an amiko
and put the channels in whatever order you like

Put all the free to air ones on your favourites list, they won't be scattered then.

I have an old Ferguson Ariva 120 which does Saorview and Satellite.
It even has a card reader for those who might have a need for one.

I can arrange the list of channels in any manner I like.
There is no user switching to go between Sat & Terestrial, except channel selection.
I feel sure all the newer Ariva models will be similar.
