Shearing ewe lambs

    Whats evertones opinion on clipping ewe lambs? I done mines in september seems a great job on the cross breed sheep but I also sheared purebred charollais ewe lambs and lost 2 first sign a frost as there fleece never grew since was clipped.

    I doubt it was the shearing, were they vaccinated, frost sometimes triggers one of the clostridial diseases,
    Apparently the skin compensates for shearing some way to help avoid the cold.
    Always shear the ewe lambs here, we lamb them in their first year and wool around the udder of unshorn sheep is a hassle

    Shore ours in October bit left 5 unshorn as a little comparison. The shorn ewe lambs are in great condition and thriving. Should make lambing easier as they'll be clean and should be easier spot ones in difficulty before its too late.

    Were all vaccinated with heptavac p plus and all given the 1 year cobalt bolus and have the red lick buckets with them.... there all doing well that's why it was a shock till see 2 dead. I'm keeping them on for hoggets never tried lambing them in there first year heard people saying good and bad things about it.
