What are the chances of thre ever being a female Pope?

I have witnessed so much change in the last few decades, from gay marriage to female clergy in the Anglican Church, to a black President of the USA! The UK is leaving the EU and Donald Trump will be the new President of the USA - so many unexpected things have happened, some crazy, some good, some bad, but all unthinkable and unexpected, so with this in mind is it possible that a female will be crowned Pope within 'lets say' the next thirty years?

    Possible, totally impossible?

You wont. Women can't do the Jesus Transubstantiation thing. Turning wine and bread into flesh and blood.

Totally possible. There's already been a female pope, in the Middle Ages:

Pope Joan the Second is yet to come.

PS: She pretended to be a man.

Well if it happens it'll be about 50 years after the first female priests are ordained.

Will you calm down. Women have no place having a day over their own body in the Catholic Church. It'll be a while before they get to the Vatican

Well they haven't even allowed female priests yet so a long time I'd say.

Yes and is that not why they carry the pope over the lads to see his balls ever since ?

Father Sinead O'Connor has to be in with a fighting chance.
She'd want to make bishop in the next five years though.

Someone could always set up their own church and give themselves the title of pope.

But the catholic church? that's never going to happen.

We haven't had the first straight male pope yet.

Sure we have. History is riddled with popes who had mistresses and kids.

Should happen shortly after Bertie is re-elected as Taoiseach.

You'll need women priests first. I am not that clued up on all things RC but what are the odds of us seeing women priests any time soon? Why are there no women priests (the official line) in the RCC, as a matter of interest?

Do most priests not like to "have" a few kids. So to speak.

    Neither can men.

The usual answer is that none of the disciples were women so obviously god only wanted men as priests. In much the same way that none of the disciples were Italian or Polish or German, so obviously god only wanted Jews for priests - didn't he?

The testicle chair/testicle examination thing? That's widely accepted to be a myth.

    (As is Pope Joan).

I was not referring to that, but given the Pope has to be male...

At present, but this thread is all about whether there will ever be a female Pope.

    No according to St Malachy.

The current Pope is suppose to be the last...

My favourite pope was Formosus. He died, they buried him, a while late the new pope dug him up, they put him on trial, he was found guilty, they cut off three of his fingers and threw the corpse into the Tiber. Great bunch of lads in the Vatican...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Formosus

It's all utter nonsense really. It's taken us a while to grow up.

The church needs gender quotas pronto.

Inxidentally, who came up with that rule?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,681 ✭✭✭Fleawuss

Never. You need a penis to be a pope. You need a penis to be a priest. It's all about the penis in matters of priesthood.

Why? Which Catholic ceremony necessitates the use of a penis?

None of course. What a silly question.

Its not really. It shows that it is a rule conceived by men to keep women out.
The role should be about your faith and not because you've got a cock under your dress!

These are men who retire into the safety of celibacy. Of course they do not want women in the Vatican - well, except for the nuns who do the housework stuff.

Thanks for the info and I agree with you on your second point. It really is a very outdated rule.

What is their problem with woman? What do they think will happen if there were women priests? Are they just being stubborn for the sake of it?

For some unknown reason God is always referred to in the male gender. There is no reason to presume that God is a male. God could be female couldn't she?

When we can accept that God can be female, then female popes will surely follow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,096 ✭✭✭✭looksee

So if god is female, why did she only want male apostles? Of course, at the time a woman would not have got away with being the Saviour - no-one would have paid any attention to a woman - so he had to be male, and presumably the same reason for the apostles.
