What car for reasonable insurance?

    Hi there

I've not been in the country for the last couple of years and have lost my no claims bonus due to this. I've been driving for about 10 years and had the full no claims bonus built up before I left. I'm coming back soon and need to buy a car. Was looking at vw golfs etc - some sort of hatchback around this size, four to six years old, looks stylish and a sturdy car for a mix of city and motor way driving.

However I'm checking out car insurance quotes and getting a shock, being quoted more than a fifteen hundred plus. I'm wondering what kind of car, year, engine size should I be realistically going for to build my no claims bonus back without being absolutely crippled.

    Appreciate anyone's advice

Go to a broker for insurance - they can get some places to accept a two year break in driving.

Maybe you had insurance outside the country - even named or on company policy?

As for car - think middle of road. Ford focus, golf, volvo v40 etc.

How many miles will your motorway driving be? How much of this is up and down the country? Or just withing a set locality? You should consider any car that can minimise the cost but still meet your needs, if you only do small miles or don't have much to carry about maybe a smaller car for a year or two?

I'd ring around insurers and brokers,
