Now that the replacement for ITV1, UTV Ireland's content been watered down to a sub 3e waste of EPG space, is it not time we got back ITV on Virgin media?

I would sadly say it's something that will never happen, it's in Virgin's interest, as the owner of TV3 for it not to come back.

That together with the €4 increase just announced is why I am getting rid of it and going to back to Sky in the new year.

    Simple answer - never.

That always was the answer, unfortunately. I'll be surprised if ITV2/3/4 hang around for too long either. TV3 - a wholly owned subsidiary of Virgin Media - now has an exclusive licence for ITV produced content for the next ten years and neither they nor their parent company want people watching this content on other broadcasters where the advertising revenue is going elsewhere.

If ITV had any real interest in broadcasting here, UTV Ireland wouldn't have been sold.

Selling to TV3 gives them the best of both worlds: ITV2, 3, 4 can remain, and they get their main money making content broadcast and paid for by TV3 without any worries about broadcasting regulations and requirements.

Make sure you get a hybrid LNB ( as you'll be forced to take SkyQ ), add a Freesat Pvr and you can have practically any ITV region you want in HD, recordable with series link etc.

Going back to Sky? I've heard their broadband is slower than Virgin

BB and TV are different things, you don't have to get them from the same provider, though sometimes it's cheaper. Having the option to switch provider means you can haggle over the price.

Virgin have their own cables and don't use phone cable so can offer high speeds. If you are very lucky and live in the right areas you could get FTTH from Siro or Eir which would give you speeds three times faster than Virgin's top consumer package.

SKY resell broadband. If you are lucky enough to live near a fibre enabled phone cabinet you could get up to 100Mb from just about every provider, including SKY. If you don't then you won't. In fact if you are more than a few Km from the exchange or cab then mobile phone might be faster.

Anyway it's all moot because no matter how fast your connection Netflix still tops out at a tiny fraction of it.

BTW Freesat makes a nice top-up box.
Freesat means you get all the ITV's , HD, +1's and a lot of the time the evening films start a half an hour later on other regions.
Also you get Channel 5 HD , CNN HD and others.

Compare to multiroom fpr which Virgin charge a fiver a month for the first year ( €60 ) and eleven after that (€132 per year)

    Me *hugs* Freesat box.
