My girlfriend, living in Armagh, cannot receive Southern stations via her aerial but she can pick it up on the RTE International Player on her iPad.

I'm wondering what would be the best way to cast it from her iPad to her Sony television. The two options I can think of is the Chromecast or th Amazon Firestick. Anyone know if any of these have a built in RTE app. If you buy South of the border will you be able to get the normal RTE service rather than the international version

Is there a better way to get RTE via her fibre connection

    Thanks for any advice

    Kevin

I never use RTE Player so don't know if it works with Chromecast or any other casting device (though I doubt it works).

However, it's her IP address that determines what version of RTE Player she gets, it would make no odds if she bought it North or South.

Last time I checked the RTÉ player didn't support chromecast, might have changed. If she had an android or pic with chrome you can just cast the screen, ie mirroring.

Has anyone tried an RTE aerial (Group CD/Wideband) for signal reception at her location? Most parts of Armagh (City) can recieve RTE either from Cleirmont or Monaghan and Sligo gets into certain parts too.

    Discussed previously http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=98640505#post98640505, http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=89792578.

If not already done an installer would be the best option to sort it.

Regarding the aerial, Group C/D or W are no longer recommended for reception of the upper UHF band as they extend into the 4G 800MHz band. For now a Group T (white tip) is recommended for the next few years until the next chunk of spectrum is cleared of TV and sold off to the mobile network operators.

Sorry was talking in old money.I still call Cleirmont "Carlingford" lol.
Yes my bad re the cd/wideband aerials.Even with the group T logs and yagis that I use the 4G marches straight on in. I have been fitting 4G Filters at masthead on all installs as standard for so long now it doesn't even register as new anymore.

Interesting, given the number of analogue era Group C/D & W aerials out there, most if not all without any type of filtering and some likely to have masthead amplification, I'm surprised we haven't seen hardly any issues reported here.

I remember, in Comreg published communications, between RTÉ, the Dept of Comms and Comreg major concerns being raised prior to the 4g auction about potential interference to TV reception and who was going to be responsible for resolving the issue as we hadn't anything similar to the UK's at800 scheme. Luckily it hasn't come to pass, yet.

So you can do all of this with a chromecast also ..

RTE player on android is not good frankly (understatement) and the fact that you have to mirror the screen to chromecast is archaic at this stage.

BBC iPlayer on android is a shining example on how such players should be made. All4 is pretty decent too .. both have solid chromecast integration.
