'Nosing' for laminate flooring steps

I'm having a laminate floor laid and there's a couple of steps to negotiate which seperates the kitchen from the living area.
I got some wooden nosing 22mm x 22mm from a local builders providers. Smallest profile they had but felt very flimsy. Even at those dimensions I felt people wil either trip up on it or it will break fairly soon.

And sure enough, 3 days after the builders put it on, the lads in paining today pointed out that it has cracked in 1 area and will soon come off altogether.

Has anyone any experience of what to use in a situation like this, with a lot of traffic on the steps?

I would use a metal one.any good carpet shop will have them.you can screw them or my preference is double sided tape if it has no holes.
