Value of 96 Golf GTI

    Any advice appreciated.

    I have a friend who's getting rid of a 96 Golf GTI.

It failed its NCT (doorsill rust and another fault I don't know) and seems fairly ragged to me. I don't know the mileage but I think it's in the 100,000 to 150,000 miles range.

I said just scrap it. She thinks its worth something. Searches on Donedeal for similar vintage Golfs found everything from €200 to €5,000 (for VR6s) so it's hard to value.

What value would you put on it?
Is it worth putting in effort to sell it?
Would it be better to sell in the breaking and repairable section on Donedeal than in the cars section?

If it's a 16v then it's worth a few quid in parts. Less so if 8v.

    Thanks I'll check that.

If it's 16V how much would you mean roughly by a few quid, over or above €500?

Put it on donedeal and adverts with plenty of pics. See if anyone is even responding.
If it won't even pass NCT and is crapped out then buyers might not be interested.

As said try selling parts and see if that works. That means the yoke will be sitting for months while you're trying to sell the parts.

Again, I 'll probably be warned for "stupid post", but there is a market for this:
Honking great sunstrip, yellow headlight bulbs, pink fogs, blue licence plate bulbs, picture next to a big puddle.
    Burner mobile.
Sell to first eejit to offer cold hard cash.

It's not desirable and I can't see them being valuable at any stage, well everything is worth money once it's 30 years old, but mk3 is unloved and the GTI wasn't really a performance car.

A 1.4 or a diesel would be worth more IMO

As it's a friends I have nothing at the moment. I should be able to send you something over the weekend.
