    Howdy all,

Please welcome this forum's new referee - by which I mean mod - F1ngers, who has kindly agreed to step in whenever any of you good folk are trying to tear each other's virtual throats out ;)

Also like to take the opportunity to thank Nody, who has played his testimonial and is stepping down from the forum. Give him a Mexican wave as he leaves the stadium!

Congrats fingers, I'd say there's little enough modding required here anyway. Grand bunch of lads and all that.

The big question is though, will we make it to 2 years before an update from the feedback thread is given? :)

May I use this thread to ask about the outcomes of the feedback thread we had almost 2 years ago IIRC? Nody summarised a couple of changes to be made or not but we never got the final response. I assume it was agreed the forum did not need any changes (and to be honest it works very well as it is) but I figured I'd just use this tgread as an opportunity to get it confirmed ;).

Well done to anyone who takes a bit (or more) of its free time to help maintain this place as civil and enjoyable (despite the passionate rivalries we all have :D) as it is.

    - edit -
Ah KevIRL beat me to it :p.

    Fingers crossed it goes well

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    Feedback thread? What feedback thread!

*pushes F1ngers towards feedback thread and runs away*

Seriously though, give F1ngers a chance to settle in and I'm sure it's a topic that can be revisited shortly - maybe even a fresh thread given the age of the previous one :)

Congratulations to F1ngers! I wonder did Nody leave because of boredom?

    Welcome F1ngers.

There was a lot of good contributions to the feedback thread mostly just little things to tidy up the place and maybe make a bit more user friendly to newcomers, and to people into more than just FPL if I recall.

I'd say most of the points still stand and very little change needed, but a summing up of it and maybe a few actions regarding making it clearer what threads were for what etc would be no harm. I think there were also a few points about behaviours people had little tolerance for, and I'd say all of that kind of thing has been acted on by mods.

Get him onto it now when he's still fresh and eager johnny_ultimate!! :D

I'll just preface this response by saying I can be a bit finnicky about certain threads and their timings/contents.
I "follow" certain threads all over boards and I dislike the amount of chat in them.

Had a quick look at the feedback thread.

    "AUSTIN..... Please score":
I have not seen this in a matchday thread this season - If it were to happen, I would prefer a two-strike you're out approach(one week ban followed by perma-ban). Thoughts FG?(Will agree to perma-ban if you want.)

    Matchday threads:
With the exception of once or twice, MD threads are generally started after midnight of the matchday - Non-issue, but would like FPL twitter in OP.

    Transfer thread:
As soon as site is updating, the following weeks thread can be started. Think this is the case for every transfer thread this season.

    Price changes thread:
OP to contain links to "reliable" sources for price changes - This thread serves one purpose, price changes(Pics/GIFs should be obligatory though).
No chat? Is there any need for "Glad I bought/sold Y" or "Is X going up/down tonight?" - Info in OP.

    FAQ:
If someone wants to do up an FAQ and PM it to me, I'll sticky it.
I think I've linked the FPL rules once or twice this season, whereas last season a few of us were doing it on pretty much a daily basis.

    Sub forums:
Open to debate, but I don't see a need for it - not enough threads on other Fantasy sports to justify it, imo.

We can use this thread to discuss my points above and feel free to offer inputs.

I'm going back to FF: XV. :D

F1ngers in another pie I see.

Every steady hand needs F1ngers for balance.

I'll stop with the puns before I get the middle finger :pac:

    Seriously though congrats/commiserations :)

Edit: Oh and my thanks to Nody for stepping in to the role after I stepped down myself. We rarely saw you and that was a testament to the forum and Nody's modding :)

Congrats F1ngers, you were always a great help with anything I've been involved in running on this forum so this appointment does not come as a surprise in the slightest.

I have deleted chat - see reminder below.

    F1ngers.

Just a quick note, thought as well to put here as anywhere else.

I personally don't agree with a complete chat bar on the price changes thread. It has never been purely a thread for posting the changes each day only. In fact it's only a couple of years ago that we started posting a full list of changes each morning.

This thread, in my view, is also for discussion about price changes, price change related questions etc. I don't recall limiting this thread to list of price changes only coming up in the feedback exercise.

Obviously I agree that it should stay on topic, and can sometimes drift off into a discussion about whether to sell a player or not, but I don't see why a bar is necessary on On Topic chat about for example:
    • whether experienced price watchers think a player will rise in the coming week
    • expectations or predicitons about double rises in wildcard season
    • anomalies - why did PlayerX rise/not rise
    • flagging and protection - regular valid questions about this
    • estimates or predictions about how far Aguero will drop for example

The only type of post that I have seen that maybe tries peoples patience is when people don't bother checking the readily available prediction sites and ask lazy questions like "Is XXX due to rise soon?" but that is not a major problem I believe, and is usually answered by somebody posting "http://www.fplstatistics.co.uk/" :)

It seems to me like a new rule for the sake of a rule, and unnecessarily limiting the function of the thread. The extension of a no chat rule on this thread is that we'd need a Price Changes thread and a Price Changes Discussion thread!! Its a popular discussion thread and while some of it has occasionally been off topic, there have been over 1,200 posts this season. We've only had about 120 days of price changes.

Interested to know peoples views, perhaps as an indicator if you agree thank this post.

Judging by the number of thanks you got I'll probably be in the minority, but I prefer to be able to find the price changes from the previous night in an instance. Having to scroll through a page or two of posts to find the price change is a minor annoyance, but it is an annoyance.

And I'm not going to say that I'm not guilty of having made posts that are just the price changes, I have. But on the whole when I saw Fingers post, I thought it was a change for the better for this thread

To be honest it's not exactly hard to find a price change update and off topic chat is never usually a big problem. So what if you have to scroll through some posts you're not too interested in. I'd also recommend a 40 posts per page setting for those who don't like excessive scrolling but if that's your only bugbear then I see no reason to ban chat here.

Thanks for the replies. Just seen the post 'thanks'. Not just me then!

There is more to price changes than just the numbers. We should try to stay on topic but otherwise, barring a new 'discussion' thread or burying price changes chat in the General thread what do we do???

Edit: Post now has more thanks than my team got points last weekend. :(

Had a reply typed out and did a "preview" and boards had a brain fart.

So my TL:DR(of the missing post) is that I will lift the chat ban on Thursday, want to put a small faq and "read op before posting" into the op.
Work, sleep and beer means it will be Thursday before it's done - at the latest.

Have a few FAQs, if anyone want's to suggest one or two, please do.

While some chat might be appropriate (the ones that you suggested in the bullets may be very useful and reasonable), a lot of the thread was "OMG I couldn't get who was in the pic today" which really isn't on topic. Everyone knows my thoughts on the pictures themselves but I find the references to them to be completely distracting and the main reason why I consider the pictures off topic since many of them are tenuous at best. However, I could welcome a happy medium with chat restricted to on topic matters.

    Fair point.

Pics have become a bit of a tradition over a couple of years, but you're right. No need for comments and discussion on them.

As long as it's banter in good spirits I don't see why anyone should have a problem? the forum would be dry as hell without the banter, and I personally have got a good few belly laughs from the price changes thread. Long may that continue I say. Genuine discussion on price changes has always taken place. Like any thread, you glance over the posts that don't interest you, and focus on the ones that do.

And as for the actual price changes that happen every day, if anyone wants just the actual changes with no accompanied chat or pics, then I suggest bookmarking this page:

http://fplstatistics.co.uk and click on events(price changes) - they're bang on with the price changes - which take place around 1:20am every day

Never knew about that "events" tab.
