Hello, I am thinking about studying to be a paramedic, I have just completed and EFR course with the Irish Red Cross and I'm starting my EMT in January. I am in 6th year and I am hoping to study to be a paramedic. People keep saying to go study in england instead of through the HSE. I've been told I should study in england and then come back to Ireland. Can someone please tell me the benefits of studying in england instead of ireland
    Thanks

I think the standard is higher in england, as in if you qualify as a paramedic in england and come over to Ireland you're at the same standard of training as a irish advanced paramedic. Don't quote me on that now,you ll prob get a better answer if you ask in the "student paramedic 2016" forum.

    Hi guys,

The paramedic programme over here with the Hse is a tough course but the only major difference with paramedics here and England is the English paramedics have a few skills that irish paramedics cannot do. Hence the reason once you pass your phecc exams over here you can give all your english qualifications etc to phecc and you will then be able to claim the title of Advanced Paramedic. A good friend of mine did the English paramedic course and he failed his phecc paramedic exams over here. So saying the standard is higher over there isn't true. There are some slight differences.

My honest opinion to you is to concentrate on your EMT course for now and when you finish that if you still want to be a paramedic look into it more. There tends to be roster problems with the HSE so you could be anywhere in the country instead of closer to home.

Hope this helps answer your question and if you have any more I will try my best to answer them

    Best of luck
