Typical days on pasture for a dairy herd - Ireland vs Internationally

    Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to find out how many days of the year a dairy herd would typically be on pasture as opposed to in the shed. I presume that can be pretty different in Ireland compared to other countries.

Any knowledge anyone has, or even contacts in Teagasc who might be able to help, would be gratefully received!

    Thanks....

depends on the weather, the stocking rate, land type etc etc

    Wet land - 230 / 250 days
    Dry land - 300 days

This could also potentially be by supplementing cows with silage so not 100% accurate

Bearing in mind in 2012 cows in some parts of the country were housed for some part of every month of the year its highly weather dependant.
