The biggest rip off in the history of the state

What's this all about I hear you ask?
Well, pull up a chair, grab a mug of tae and sit back and I'll tell you all about it
I think it will require a fail enquiry because something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

It began, as it so often does, about 4/weeks ago. I was just printing something off the internet and a message flashed up on my screen - printer ink low. Wtf, says I. I'd only printed about 100 pages since I got it
Anyway, you guys know me, I like to get on top of this sh*t as soon as it rears its head and I was confronted with the awful reality. Printer cartridges cost more or less the same as the actual printer. Wtf, says I, again.
Also, is it a bit racist only having black and colured cartridges?

So in summary, where do you get your printer cartridges m8s?

Printer ink is an obscene price.

You can buy repackaged ink cartridges online. They are basically old cartridges refilled with ink. A lot cheaper.

I've got a connection that hooks me up with cheap toner.

Get a refill for half the price, theirs a place in the middle of town where I live that does it and I'm guessing theirs one in your town as well.

    Nice one
Bit cheaper than the two other places I've checked.
6€ cheaper than the printer was

Tesco have a novel solution, just don't change the toner/printer cartridge till the paper comes out as white as it went in!

If you have an inkjet printer you'd be better off chucking it in the bin than refilling the inks

I would have thought it was decimalisation

Laser printer for £80 on Amazon 3 years ago, came with 4 colours of 700-page toner. Still not through it.
If I ever do finish it, the replacement is more than twice the price - so I'll just sell the printer and buy a new one with more free toner.

The environment won't like me, but my wallet will.

Put a few drop of paraffin on the ribbon when it starts to fade, and away you go again.

Somebody told me recently that printer ink is one of the most expensive liquids in the world per volume; more expensive than petrol or alcohol (in general).

    Seems a ludicrous expense.

Is there some clever engineer somewhere who has come up with a printer/cartridge combination which beats the system?

I get mine from the Smart Cartridge in Sallynoggin. Half the price of the HP ones and lasts at least four times longer.

I bought a cheaper version of the inkjet cartridges from Tesco and now it's refusing to use them and messages keep popping up from Epson telling me I'm not using authentic ink. Surely if Tesco make these available , I have the right to use whatever refills I want as I own the printer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,472 ✭✭✭✭Grayson

What make is the printer? HP and canon refils are pretty easy to find. Most towns will have places that refil them. Epson are a litle bit harder to find.

Epson btw are my favourite inkjet printer. The reason is that they have three separate colour cartridges. So if you run out of one colour you don't need to replace all three. The "colour" cartridge the others use is a rip off. They generally have three colours and if you run out of one colour in it you have to replace the whole thing.

I'm not even getting into a discussion about paper and ink being racist to be honest. I'm fairly certain it's hyperbole but I couldn't be having that right now.

Printer companies seem to love installing a load of bloatware on your computer too. Jesus, I just want a driver now every application you have ever developed.

Now that it's been legalised you could get a prescription and buy it at the pharmacy.

It'll still cost €100, but you'll be able to claim it against income tax.
