    Hello smart internet people.

Was driving North on the M50 today and saw a single motorbike guard going southbound, lights were going.

then saw three more, followed by an army jeep.

This was followed by two arctics (contractors it looked like), three or four army jeeps, and more squad cars and bikes,

followed by some bikes that were moving on but preventing the traffic from moving past them.

I'm guessing this was moving of ammo or something by the army?

Money transfer between the mint in Sandyford and the airport. Happens all the time.

Cash transport from the airport to Sandyford no doubt. They do that run regularly

    EDIT: What Alun said :p

24,500kg max load in an artic, and a €50 note weighs less than a gram.

That's 29.878 million notes or about €1.5 billion.

Of course it could be coins.

More likely the artic company have a contract that says 2 artics and regardless of how mch is to be moved , 2 artics are sent out

Anyone got an idea when this will happen again?

I've a few 'mates' who want to know....

When I was working on the M50 upgrade at Sandford a few years ago I used to see the same run go past me - pretty much weekly, usually with an army helicopter overhead too.

They also always had a 3rd - empty tractor unit along with the 2 pulling trailers - I always presumed that it was either A- a battering ram for any malicious obstacles or B - a backup to minimise downtime if there was a breakdown of one of the others.

It's cool as fcuk to see all the same :)

50/50 chance of the load getting robbed and a back up vehicle if one breaks down, doubt they'd want a lorry load of money sitting broken down vehicle till a replacement can be found.

You can half that, if I learnt anything from the movies, one of them is the decoy.

Except you don't run a decoy and the real deal together, kinda defeats the purpose :)

    What if both are decoys?

I live right beside the mint, it's really cool watching it all happen. Not so much fun when they do it at 4am and you've 3 helicopters circling for house for 20mins :pac:

Enda joined a cycling club in his home town in mayo. They needed some spinners or something.

Last time I saw them a while back 7 trucks peeled out and some amount of army and cops.

Biggest load I ever saw coming out.

I'd say if we can get enough Boards members on board we could orchestrate a heist, there's one poster in particular who could be used to some effect as a speed ramp... You know, end the road for the convoy ;)

    It's all a decoy.
At the same time a 06 D white Renault Master van leaves the back of the airport and heads to Sandyford via the tunnel and the East Link.
That's the van with the gold bars.

    A Renault? Gold bars? :)

Come off it man, that ****s heavy! He wouldn't make it past the airport perimeter fence without breaking down.

They use reinforced trucks for gold but we have none so its OK.

Just to add to this... I was driving northbound on the M50 a few months ago, saw the helicopters, then the convoy etc.

However I was on a Conf call on my car kit at the same time... call went dead and I couldn't redial for a minute or two... could they be jamming cellular communications as well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,721 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

Interesting about the signal jamming, I wouldn't say it's legal so I'd be skeptical. What if someone needed an ambulance?

I work by the mint to when I see the helicopters next I'll try make a call.

Ha ha... I was at the time, so that is very probably the cause!

The different mints in Europe produce different notes. Each year the ECB tells the various countries what notes they are producing. So Ireland might only print €20 & €50 note and have to import notes from the other mints around the EU

The convey to AIB is pretty impressive too

The decoy is the taller one as there's no weight in the back ;)
