Work contract

    Hi I was wondering if someone could help me on the wording of my work contract.. I am currently in the company 6 months and I have a question in relation to my probation period as I am hoping to go for a mortgage next month.

    It states in my contract that my pay will be reviewed after 6 months of employment.

    It states the following under pension

    "Details of the company pension scheme will be given to you at the appropriate time and you will be entitled to contribute on your own behalf following 6 months of employment. Subject to successful completion of your probationary period, age limits and service qualifying periods you will be included in the company defined contribution pension scheme"

    My contract states the following for my probationary period;

    "Your contract is subject to a probationary period of 12 months in order to assess your suitability and skills for the role. This may be extended at the discretion of the company but will not in any circumstances exceed 12 months."

    My probationary period section makes no sense is this a typo?  Should my probationary period be 6 months as my pay is reviewed after 6 months and I am entitled to make pension contributions into the work pension scheme?

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I cant ask anyone in work as the HR department are off for Christmas and I need to know in order to see if I can go for a mortgage..

    I just need some advice

    i am going to but I wont be able to as there is no one to ask for a couple of weeks.  So I just was wondering if someone had any insight.. Im not going to take it as gospel but I was just looking for someone elses opinion on it.

    I understand that I will not get full clarification til I speak to company but I just was wondering.

    Looks like a typo, but should have been picked up before now.

    Everyone, effectively is on probation for the first 12 months anyway because of employment law and regardless of what is officially in the contract.

    Where the wording in the contract is important is where it relied upon for bank loans etc.

    Ask them for a letter confirming you have passed probation.

    I hope that it is a typo as it doesn't really make sense for it to be 12 months in the wording.  It looks like it should have been 6 months and this may be extended to 12 months.  I know the company are pretty happy with my performance at the moment so hopefully they will be willing to allow me to pass my probation.  At the time of taking up employments wasn't really considering getting a mortgage but since then we seen a house that we like and are considering going for a mortgage.
